Software Reviews and Criticism

    Where to Begin...

You'd think that people who have been designing software for decades would know how to make a program function well. That is not the case with Microsoft word. Yes, it has functions that other word processors don't. I downloaded it specifically to use the "Compare Documents" function which Pages does not have. It crashed on me four times in the first five minutes and even made my Windows freeze. The promotion on the app store claims it's "Beautiful," but the conception of beauty over at Micosoft is definitely not one to which I subscribe. There are so many windows, menus, buttons, and graphics it's an assault on my vision. I cannot easily understand where to go or which menu to navigate to find the things I'm looking for. OVERDESIGNED is the appropriate word for this piece of crap, which brings up multiple windows for opening documents, and the compare function kept asking me for access to documents I wasn't even using. I do not understand how a company with as much history as Micosoft can put out such a total piece of garbage, and if it weren't for this one feature I would never have downloaded it in the first place, and am thankful I will never have to use it again except in similar emergencies.

    Improving All the Time

I am not sure why all the negative reviews for this. Yes, this is the same subscription model that has been around a few years. $70 for single license, $100 for family licenses. You won't get anything for free. Don't forget that you are also getting 1 TB of OneDrive Cloud space for each of the family members on the license. That is a great deal when you look at having to also purchase other cloud drive subscriptions. Some reviewers stated that it "BROKE" their current installation of Office. Any program that updates from a prior version erases the old version. If you don't like the newer version, delete and reinstall from your prior version installation disks. I have always found Microsoft Word to be stable, across all my devices, whether on the puny PC to my fully loaded Windows.

Microsoft Microsoft = Terrible End User Experience

I don't know why I expected this program to work smoothly. Turns out, I was never even able to activate Word despite having signed up for 2 Microsoft Office accounts, including payment information. They were 1-month trials, with the full intent of signing up for a year. Both confirmed my subscription in the App Store but were inaccessible via Word. It kept saying our account was activated, and when I'd attempt to log in, it would say there was no existing account. It continued to put me in this perpetual loop of entering passwords for both Microsoft and Microsoft and receiving different information from both accounts. Ultimately, I just downloaded Word on my laptop and it was up and running in 5 minutes. It's a shame I can't use my Windows for Word, but switching over to the laptop is still better than trying to use Pages, which is still worse than this entire negative review.

    Why Microsoft? Why?

Now I don’t dislike Microsoft word or anything but this program really inferiated me. First of all I was allready disappointed when I saw that this was Office 365 only so I decided I would start my free month just to realize that the button that said start your free month was FAKE!!!??? Wow microsoft. And literally what this meant was that I eigher had to pay $70 a year for a text editor or just beable to read blank documents. They might as well just of made it a upfront payment like older word copies cause there sure not getting business from me. Now I could pay them $70 a monthm, but I could also just use my office 2010 installation which I can garuntee there isn’t much new between the two that I would need to use. And also I could just use pages. So why microsoft do you have to use such rude and forceful business methods? Why?

    Windows

I'm using Word for Windows. I finally bit the bullet and subscribed, because that's the only way to get it now. It's like an old friend. I'm fluent after YEARS of use. HOWEVER, Microsoft tries to WEDGE its cloud service into my work-flow and it's confusing and annoying. When I want to choose "Autosave" to protect myself from losing in-process documents, it puts pop-ups telling me I need "Microsoft 360" or whatever, and there are other related foils that confuse me and make me think I can't have a fully functioning Word version, like before, unless I have a Microsoft (MS) account and/or do what Microsoft wants with respect to its cloud service. I would appreciate if MS would lay-off and just provide the software, like before. BEFORE, I could buy it once and get all subsequent updates. Now, in the interest of recurring revenue, I have to "subscribe." "Subscribing" to MS Word was a hurdle I had to get over. I tried everything, but the others aren't nearly as familiar and comfortable to me...
