Calory Overview

What is Calory? Calory is a calorie counting app that helps users track and tally their daily calorie intake. The app calculates a suggested daily calorie goal based on the user's weight, height, activity level, and weight loss/maintenance/gain goals. Users can quickly add calories they have consumed, create custom plates for regular meals, track macro nutrient goals, and monitor their daily hydration. The app also features daily history snapshots, progress charts, custom reminders/notifications, and the ability to change the app icon and theme colors. Calory does not require registration or sign up, and all information is stored on the user's iCloud for privacy. The app offers a one-time in-app purchase to unlock all premium features, and an optional auto-renewing premium subscription is available. However, Calory is not a medical app, and users should consult their health provider for specific diet needs.

Calory: Daily Calorie Counter Features and Description

1. Based on your weight, height and activity level, Calory will calculate a suggested daily calorie goal for you.

2. Everyone has a personalized number of calories they should eat every day based on factors including their weight, height, activity levels, and weight loss/maintenance/gain goals.

3. Optional auto-renewing Premium Subscription is available (price varies by territory, includes free trial) located on the Upgrade page.

4. Importantly, there is no registration or sign up required! All the information you enter into Calory is stored on your iCloud, protecting your privacy.

5. Any unused portion of a free trial period, if offered, will be forfeited when the user purchases a subscription to that publication, where applicable.

6. Suggested calorie intake goal is just an estimate based on your profile.

7. It’s hard to track calorie intake, though, not least because it’s easy to forget everything you eat during a busy day.

8. The daily goal will also factor in if you want to maintain, lose or gain weight.

9. Calory, meanwhile, will remind you throughout the day to record your calorie intake.

10. • NO registration or sign up required! All information is stored and kept on your iCloud.

11. Please consult your health provider if you want to use it for medical purposes or to obtain specific diet needs.

    Catalyst woes?

This app is a good example of the largest drawback of Catalyst: no-effort porting to PC leading to a bad user experience and a more bloated app store. It felt like I was running this app in an emulator. The controls are buggy and don't always work on the first click (e.g. *all* pickers) and some views are mis-sized leading to content clipping off the screen or into other views (e.g. "Unlock More Features" view). Catalyst issues aside, the view in which the user selects a food to add to a plate is extremely difficult to use with only pictures and no labels. The beverages section is particularly hard to navigate. The food selection as a whole is very scarce and many common items are missing. I was unable to recreate a single one of my meals. I understand that I'm supposed to pay to use the app, but I shouldn't be tied to a subscription when trialing the features. The premium screen was also closeable, leading me to think it was just "extra stuff," not the most basic features.

Definitely helpful, but could use some tweaks

I'm really enjoying using this app. I appreciate the visuals, all the customization options for plates/recipes, and the ability to log specifc items from various grocery stores. The thing that is bothering me right now is that it is somewhat easy to accidentally log meals incorrectly, but (unless it is user error) it isn't possible to delete logged items. I've had to resort to scooting mistakes to other days in the past before I even had the app...which is of course less than ideal. With the addition of a delete option, I'd be happy to rate this app 5 stars instead of 4.

Great app, stil a few bugs

Overall, terrific app. Scans barcoded foods or nutritional labels, allows manual entries for foods and recipes. Has kept me on track quite well. Still has a few quirks. Blows up on certain tasks. I had assumed that info would be sent to the developer for a fix but the problem has persisted for months. I've worked around it and it's not a show stopper, but is annoying.

ALMOST PERFECT (at least for me)

I love the scaled down ease of logging calories in this app. Some people have lamented the lack of options which for the beginner may be helpful. For me, I know within a pretty narrow margin how many calories are in the foods I eat. I was just looking for the easiest, quickest way to log them. I found it in this app. PS. It doesn't yet subtract calories from cardio or other kinds of calorie burning excorcize. I hope they add that (in a very simple way of course) in the future. THIS APP ROCKS !!!

    Crashes, lacks basic functions

Using this app on a Pc, the app crashes frequently, and it also lacks extremely basic functions like the ability to create a custom recipe. It also requires you to input a "quantity" when creating a custom food. If i am logging a 1/4 cup of flaxseeds, for example, the measurement (1/4 cup) is sufficient, I dont need to put in the quantity of flaxseeds (1/4 cup of seeds probably has dozens and dozens of seeds). The app also doesnt have a distinction for Net Carbohydrates vs Carbohydrates. This is extremely basic, especially considering the popularity of low carb diets. Totally not worth paying a subscription for this app.
