Software Reviews and Criticism

High value, high quality, highly useful

This program is very good, the price is reasonable and the features are professional quality. I use this program every single day, as a software architect I find it easy and powerful to make diagrams of system flows, data hierarchy, class diagrams, etc and the VisualDesigner works as I expect and has not crashed or destroyed my work. Many of the features are automatic and intuitive; for example when placing a figure on the canvas alignment ‘hints lines' appear so that I know when a group of boxes are properly aligned, they disappear if I don’t want a figure aligned or I completed placing the object. My bottom line is that the price is reasonable (I don’t have to worry about my boss approving the purchase) and the quality is great.

    Excellent job!

Thank you so much for creating this program! It’s very easy to use. I put together a small UML diagram in just a few minutes. That’s a huge help to someone like myself who does app development work. I’m going to keep working with it to get to know the features better. But, in the short time I’ve used it, it’s been great. I even exported a beautiful diagram to .png format without a problem. Thank you again! I’m glad that so many features are available free for use. It gives me a great opportunity to really see what I’m getting before I make a purchase. I greatly appreciate that as an app user! :)

    Very good tool

I needed a quick and easy flowcharting tool for presenting the flow of an existing program. Very often I will buy an application from an unknown publisher and be taking a chance on the quality and applicability to my needs. I'm sure we've all had that experience. Fortunately, this time, the tool is perfect for the need. Visual Designer is a great value and very well designed. Everytime I hoped it would be able to do something, it did. For example, I thought about how I was going to work around the visual problem of crossing one line over the other in a flowchart and I was pleasantly surprised to see that the software handles the issue elegantly and automatically. Also, the overall manipulation of the connecting lines is intuitive and very well done, allowing a lot of flexiblity in positioning them. Overall, a solid product, good job!

    Great BUT

Haven't used too much yet but.. the price is right. My main beef is when you use multiple monitors it doesn't remember the position of the tool, clipart or help windows. Each time I restart or open a file I have to drag all the windows to the second monitor. I hope this gets fixed because otherwise I like it.

Exactly what I was lookng for

Every now and then I need to create flowcharts, process diagrams, etc. For a couple of years I had been using another app that felt limited and kludgy to me. So I searched the app store looking for something else to try, and I found VisualDesigner. I'm very happy with it. I can create flowcharts, etc. much more quickly. They look better, and there are many options for shapes, styles, clip art, etc. There is a bit of a learning curve - that's the case with any software. The developer created extensive context-aware explanations and tips and hints for how to use the software. That really shortened the learning curve. It looks like that was a lot of work for the developer, and it's quite helpful. There were a couple of features that I couldn't figure out even with the built-in help. I sent a couple of emails to the developer and he replied promptly with clear, complete explanations. The free version of the software limits you to 100 elements in a drawing. I will probably never hit that limit, but I upgraded to the paid version anyhow because this software is so helpful to me and I believe software developers deserve to be paid when they write good programs.
