LOVED the Idea
The interface and functionality of this app are awesome! Visually, it's just what I'm looking for and totally kills Font Book, making it easy and very quick to browse through your fonts. My issue however, is this app did not import over 2,000 fonts on my system. And the developers website is no help. Under the "Fonts Not Importing" solutions it says the app will not import fonts twice, which is literally the exact opposite problem from fonts not importing! Or that the app does not support web fonts, which my missing typefaces are not. So sadly, I will continue looking for a font solution. In all fairness, I'm runing Catalina, which just came out. So maybe they haven't updated this to work with the new OS?
Not working on Catalina
Installed this font manager on Catalina and when I try to import my font library, the app just crashes.
Unusable with large libraries
RightFont *used* to work great a version or two ago. Now it's unusably slow. I suspect it may have switched to Electron under the hood and that's what's causing the problem, but that's just a hunch. In any case, I have a large font library, and literally every action—from scrolling to right clicking—takes several seconds, brings up the rainbow spinner, and sends my modern PC's fans into overdrive. It's literally faster for me to navigate through the fonts in Finder than it is to go through my library in this app. (Weirdly, it seems like this is specifically limited to the library view; when in "all fonts" view it goes faster, which is counterintuitive, but ultimately unhelpful, since the whole point is filtering.) Also, the UI is pretty questionable; there's no loading state indicating that the app is working in the background, which is bad for an app that does as much work in the background as this one does. It constantly either says "no fonts to display" or fails to alter the screen when you make changes, leaving you to think nothing has happened or will happen when it has and it will. If RightFont could fix the performance issues, I'd easily upgrade this to a four-star review. But it's just unbearably slow for me right now.
Works SOOOOO much better and faster since the last updates!
When I first downloaded it over a year ago it ran kind of sluggish and seemed to crash when reading certain font folders. Now with the latest updates and bug ffixes, that is all gone and it just works. It can read any folder it imports and does not actually activate the fonts until you tell it to. So I can see all my fonts just like looking at a typeface book. This is a graphic designer's MUST-HAVE utility. Awesome!
