Great App for Writers and Academics
This is a great app. It’s better even than Freedom used to be. (Freedom now is pretty lowsy, in my opinon.) I like that I can block particular websites, categories of websites, any appication on my computer, and also create a schedule. I am terrible at self-control but this app really helps me stay on track! One great thing about this app is that I can still use the internet for research purposes, but block time-sucking websites that I might mindlessly wander to. I use it whenever I write. I would say, it’s a top 10 app for academics who must publish or perish.
WHY A SUBSCRIPTION MODEL
I'm get tired of the cash grab subscription model that exists with apps now. This app works, yes, but is it remotely similar to anything that is subscription based in relation to feature set? Not at all. I have a hard time with Adobe, but at least they offer a serious range of feature rich tools and programs. This? It's a timer. Let me buy once and be done with it. -------------- UPDATE: Response to developer response: I fully support developers and will happily pay money to support them. I just don't fully buy (pun intended) this argument your making. I do see the benefit to you and the consumer by using a subscription model. You get better support, faster updates, and more updates as well. But in all seriousness, it does NOT need to be this expensive, seeing that you already have a decently sized subscription base. Let's say that 1 in 30 people have written reviews for this app (which is incredibly modest). 233 X 30 = $6990. $6990 X $1.99 is $13,910 per month. $166,912 per year. I would imagine that these numbers don't stand well with your argument. Just make the app more affordable, that's literally all I'm saying.
Finally, a simple inexpensive blocking app
Just the app I’ve been looking for my whole life! I’ve found others with similar functions in the past, but they were never as smooth and simple, often included easy overrides (defeating the purpose), and became obsolete with time. The subscription version of this app is the perfect package at the right price for me. No, PLEASE make one for iOS. One which can’t be circumvented by turing off app blockers in preferences. Microsoft, PLEASE find a way to make an exception to your sandboxing rule for app blockers!
Great app but minor bug
Love this app but I can’t seem to get the quick start option on the menu bar icon’s drop down to work. Just shows a blank space. So instead, I have to go into the menu everytime to start blocking. Minor inconvenience but would be nice, especially since I upgraded to premium.
More I Use = More Flawed It Gets
The longer I use this app, the more I become aware of its long list of limitations. Despite the fact that I have had a subscription for a month or so now, which I now fully regret purchasing, I continue to find issues with this app. I have spent many hours frustrated with how this app functions. First, the fact that there is no option to switch on or off non-active scheduled blocks, like you can with the iPhone Alarm app, is ridiculous and a huge inconvenience to me. Instead, if I no longer want something repeated, I literally have to remake all the blocks ONE BY ONE, which is extremely tedious. Furthermore, the fact that the only repeat options are daily, the entire weekend, every weekday, or just one day of the week is ALSO extremely annoying. Want to schedule a block for Monday and Wednesday? Well, your only option is to create two separate blocks instead of just one because of how this app is built. Lastly, being unable to adjust a block's timing sometimes becomes a huge irritation. I understand the intention is to prevent our bad habits from not adhering to the block but sometimes, I have to adjust the time. However, I'm only allowed to do so after the block has passed, forcing me to wait for hours without ANY option. There are many other issues. I am actively looking for a cheap alternative to this mess.
