It's Fairness is Hard to Believe
The computer's luck is absolutely astounding. The developer claims they didn't put in any programming to cheat and I believe them—could it be that the BGBlitz Engine has some sort of cheating built in? Some patterns I frequently see: There will often be a situation in which only one roll could possibly save the computer and the frequency with which it gets it is amazing. In my last three out of four games only a double 4 could save it, and each time it got it. There will be the frequent situation that I have my original two checkers on Point 13 and the computer has a blot on Point 12. So all I need to do is roll a 1, the odds of which are 31%. I've been in this situation in the last few months I would say between 75 and 100 times. I have rolled 1 once, that's right once. It's easy to remember... when it's once. The computer's ability to roll high doubles when bearing off Is equally amazing, where as I get a much lower amount of doubles— I've charted it. I feel like I'm paranoid for even suggesting these things, but after months of seeing the same pattern it becomes hard to deny.
dice roles are not true random
Yes, the roles comes froma table of supposed rand rolls. NO, they are defintely set in favor of the house. When the house needs a perfect roll with only two specifc die values required (should happen 2 out of 36 tries) it happens more in excessive of 7 out of ten times. I'm sure the roll tables are random, they are just not ordered randomly. This is often seen late in the game when rolling off. The house will have high numbers on both die >70% of the time while I often get 1,2 or 1,3 rolls four plus times in a row.. Suggestion just make each dice roll a true random number and don't use a look-up table. Then it would be a true game of chance.
Not intuitive to use, wants your information and to sell you things. Good expert AI mode.
To get the game to operate, you need to click “New Game” multiple times [no instructions, just extended (unnessary) trial and error]. This app is all about selling you things and asks for your user information/password (big red flag, don’t do it!). With every roll, you see the Microsoft spiraling “beachball of death” (very unnerving). On the upside, the top challange mode pushes the (Backgammon Rainman-like) individual I purchased it for. It was a $2 lesson.
Computer has the edge
let’s see, according to the games claims, the dice rolls are all randomly generated i”ve played now 7 times. the computer has rolled twice the number of doubles I have. When needing a partiicular roll to get out of “jail” I rolled a double 6 twice and a 6 5 once and all the other spaces were open. Either I have the worst luck, or there is a skew to favor the rolls the brown/computer gets. not to mention I have rolled a 1-2 twice as many times as the computer as well. Regardless of what the developer claims, from what I have experienced, there is a skew of favoribility towards the computer when it comes to rolling the dice really wish I hadn’t”t dropped $2 for this game. not worth it
Terrible algorithm ruins what could be a good game!
The set up of this game is quick and easy but it is just about impossible to play a fair game when you play against the computer. You will find that the roll of the dice is anything but random. The consistency shown by the computerized player is mathmatically and statistically impossible. The laws of probability seem to preternatutally favor the "house" which will hit just about EVERY open man, ALWAYS and without exception. You will NEVER roll a high number when you need to get your pieces off the board while the computer will roll double after high double! In addition, the computerized player will always roll a number that will cover any of it's open pieces and block you 100% of the time. If you are a skilled player, you have no advantage whatsoever. You can win of course, but the fun of Backgammon is the element of randomness. This game removes ALL randomness. Whomever programmed the algorithm, should revisit the programming in the next release to enhance the fun and make the game equitable so skill is rewarded. Don't take my word for it however. Download this game, play it for awhile and form your own opinion!
