Pathways Into Darkness Overview

What is Pathways Into Darkness? Pathways into Darkness is a first-person shooter game that was originally released in 1993 for Macintosh. The game combines adventure gameplay with FPS elements and is set in a world where a powerful race of immortals nearly exterminated themselves in war. The player's mission is to prevent a sleeping god from waking up by detonating a low-yield nuclear weapon. However, things don't go as planned, and the player finds themselves stranded in the jungle with limited equipment. The game has been updated and is now available for free on OS X.

Pathways Into Darkness Features and Description

1. The dust and rock thrown up by the resulting explosion caused enormous climactic changes in the ensuing years, and many of the Earth's species became extinct during the long winter that followed.

2. In August of 1993, Bungie Software released Pathways into Darkness the most advanced and ground breaking First Person Shooter for the Macintosh.

3. Grotesque creatures have been sighted deep in the trackless forest of the Yucatan, and strange rumors of an ancient pyramid- which is neither Aztec nor Mayan- in the same area have been circulating in the archaeological community since the early 1930's.

4. Sixty-four million years ago, a large extra-terrestrial object struck the Earth in what would later be called the Yucatan Peninsula, in southeastern Mexico.

5. It died there, or it came as close to dying as these things can, and drifted aimlessly for millions of light years before striking the Earth.

6. It was a member of a race whose history began when the Milky Way was still a formless collection of dust and gas- a powerful race of immortals which had quickly grown bored of their tiny universe and nearly exterminated themselves in war.

7. As time passed, the Macintosh hardware and software changed and the game Pathways into Darkness was no longer playable on a modern computer… Until Now.

8. The game broke new ground combining Adventure gameplay with the new First Person Shooter game that was just emerging onto the scene.

9. This particular being, whose name no human throat will ever learn to pronounce, was part of the cataclysmic battle that formed Magellanic Clouds, billions of years ago.

10. During the jump from the C-151 your primary parachute fails, and you are able to pull the reserve only moments before crashing through the forest canopy toward the ground.

11. The heat of impact liquefied the rock around it, which later cooled and encased the dead god's huge body far below ground.

    Was working last night!?

This game is amazing! I have to give it 4 Stars only because it is crashing before I can play =(. It was working last night, and then I tried opening it today, and the menu comes up, (Saved Game Selection,) but I can't play at all! All the menus come up for the in-game features, except for the, "World," window. I can click on the, "Delete Game, New Game, and Begin," buttons, but it crashes before the, "World," window appears! Halp!

    Great Game, Fantastic Memories

First they brought back Spin Doctor, then Glider, and now Pathways into Darkness. I'm loving all the attention these old classics are getting, and playing them is a blast. This game is perfectly brought back to life. Everything works flawlessly, and I can't see anyway they could of made it better. I first played this game when I was maybe 10 years old. Surfice it to say, I didn't get very far. The game relies heavily on trial and error, and guesswork. Luckily, the internet is now a thing, so if you get stuck (Invisable monsters. . .) you can get some help. Make sure to read the manual beforehand, and don't run out of time! Now someone please bring back Pegleg!!!

    Amazing Port

This game is truly epic, I used to play when I was 11, 12 years old! Brings back great memories. I assume you can't sell it due to licensing issues, but I sure would pay for it over many of these other new games with pathetic storylines. This really is a hard one, that takes a lot of time…but if you have determination, it can be a lot of fun! **This new 1.2 update does indeed fix the ceiling and floor fixtures, and makes the game even more true to the original. Keep up the good work!

    Garbage

Looks like it could be a good game, but the interface is garbage. At least it didn't work on my Windows. I went into fullscreen mode, and that was fine. But when I came out of fullscreen to check something else on my computer, the game view disappeared. Also, it pops up this microphone thing that doesn't go away, even after I quit the app. I had to restart my computer to make it leave. Additionally, when I went to move it to the trash, I of course had to enter my password to do that, since it's in the app folder, which has permissions restrictions. I kept getting a big string of characters that I didn't enter. Never had that happen before. Just weird. I thought it would be safe since it's on the app store, but now I'm a bit leery of getting any games on here.
