i dont know...
This is a pretty good game, based partly on strategy, and partly on luck, which i dont really like. in this case, thats a bad combination. if you go on a campaign, it takes forever to make any progress. i was forced to restart my campaign over three times in a row. i just play on multiplayer mode. the only way strategy helps you in this game is if you have a lot of it, and you know what to do in every circumstance, even then, one bad roll can completely ruin the entire game for you. it is fun when you have a good plan and get good rolls, otherwise, it can be pretty upsetting, even if you are typically a good sport. it can even be humiliating when you lose because you just cant get a good roll! What i dont know is what the costumes on multiplayer mode cost. it says “one extra coin, which makes it sound like its just with the game credits, but if so, why do you have to verify your purchase with your Microsoft ID?
A beautiful game with ugly flaws
Robotek has tremendous potential as a competitive game, but there are serious non-competitive features present in multiplayer. I don’t care about the single player mode or the AI. AI are predictable and ultimately unsatisfying as opponents. This is true of nearly all games that include both a single player and multiplayer mode, and ultimately no issue with the AI has taken away from my enjoyment of the game.
Hell hath no fury like a disappointed fan, and this is very much true of Robotek. Much of the criticism is misplaced, but not all. The first criticism is the pay-to-play model, commonly referred to as play-to-win by its detractors. I’ve given money to hexage, not to win, but because I want to support the game developers (and I like being able to make faces in multiplayer). 3$ for costumes and access to the additional multiplayer modes was a bargain, and I feel good about being able to support hexage. What I feel less good about is the naked advantage one gains in multiplayer, and how that scales to the amount spent. It would be more equitable if there were a cap on purchases, or only one in-app purchase with a higher price tag.
The second criticism is that players who are upset with a match can simply disconnect rather than suffer a loss. This becomes incredibly frustrating when a game stretches on for 10 minutes or longer. Sure, its possible to accidentally disconnect, but having played over 400 matches, I’ve only accidentally lost signal 3 times. I’ve lost track over the number of times players have disconnected on me to avoid a loss. The game tells you when you disconnect, so you know when the other player ditched your game, which makes it even more frustrating. The penalty for disconnecting doesn’t keep many of the top players from utilizing it as a strategy. To discourage this practice, Hexage needs to massively increase the penalty for disconnecting by making it reduce one’s rank by a percentage rather than a flat amount.
Needs some Inprovements. i wish that they were game MONEY called: Gearcash. you can use it to buy costumes. and i wish that they were more robot types, too. If you READ this rEVIEW, I will rate the app 6 stars.
This game looks very simple when you start playing it for fun. But soon you realize you’ve lost hours to this deceptively addictive game. Pretty awesome little game!
