Ad Control Overview

What is Ad Control? Ad Control is a content blocker app for Safari on OS X 10.11 El Capitan and above. It blocks ads, pop-ups, banners, layer ads, and more on websites, including Facebook, YouTube, and millions of others. The app uses Apple's Content Blocking API to speed up web browsing by filtering out unwanted content, which can cause pages to load slower, eat up data plans, and consume battery life. Ad Control also protects users from annoying and intrusive ads that distract them from reading stories, watching videos, shopping, or casually browsing the internet. The app is conscious about website owners who support their websites from ad placement and allows users to choose their preferred browsing experience. It automatically updates the ad blocking database, enables users to report websites that still display advertisements, and syncs preferences and whitelists via iCloud across all devices. Ad Control improves web page loading speed by an average of four times and reduces data consumption by up to 50%. The app has received positive feedback from users who appreciate its effectiveness in blocking ads. For help or feedback, users can visit the Ad Control website.

Once you go 1 Ad, you cant go back

I started with the no ad version and it seemed to work. I then switched to 1 ad mode and then was getting bombarded again, however switching back to no ad doesn't do anything and now all sites can still load their ads. I've tried emptying my safari cache, but nothing. Really disappointing for a paid app.

    Works as described.

The extensions that are downloaded from the App Store have to be opened from the Applications folder first. It took me some time to figure this out. When you download the extension, go to your Applications folder then open the app. You can then go into the Extensions window in Safari and activate the extension. This is a strange and unintuitive way of doing things. In the ends though, the extension works perfectly blocking all ads. There is even an option to load one ad per page which is nice.

    Mostly works as advertised

There are a few websites I visit where the experience with ads is so painful, it is very difficult to read or understand any of the content. I decided to try Ad Control because it had some of teh best reviews, it is relatively inexpensive, and there is no subscription. I installed the extension, and set it for "allow 1 ad", and it appeared to not work. I had done so, since I wantd to give website owners the chance to earn som ad income. The first few websites I tried loaded with all of their ads. Then I figured it out. The webiste designer was doing some HTML voodoo to make it seem like all of the ads were one ad. So I changed the setting to "no ads" and it worked perfectly. Too bad, website owners. Your own greed has worked against you.

    Good

It didn't work at the first time using. But I tested today. It seems good.
