DaVinci Resolve Overview
What is DaVinci Resolve? DaVinci Resolve 17 is a professional editing, color correction, audio post, and visual effects software tool used in high-end post-production and finishing for Hollywood feature films, television shows, and commercials. It combines 8K editing, color correction, visual effects, and audio post-production in one software tool. The free version includes all the same high-quality features as the paid version, including 32-bit float YRGB image processing, editing features, visual effects, and professional audio tools. It can output SD, HD, and Ultra HD resolution files and can use a maximum of 2 GPUs within MacPro. The software includes advanced color correction tools, a cut page editing feature for faster editing, a Fusion visual effects workspace, and Fairlight audio post capabilities. The paid version includes additional features such as automatic facial recognition, noise reduction, motion effects, lens distortion correction, HDR grading with Dolby Vision support, and stereoscopic 3D tools. The Mac App store version has some limitations and may not be compatible with all 3rd party OpenFX or VST plugins. The system requirements include a current model iMacPro, iMac, MacBook, MacBook Pro, or MacPro with integrated or discrete GPU with at least 2GB of graphics memory, a fast SSD or hard disk for video, 8GB of system memory, and at least a 1440 x 900 resolution display.
1. Upgrade from this free to the paid version of DaVinci Resolve 17 Studio and you also get automatic facial recognition for face refinement tools, temporal and spatial noise reduction, photorealistic optical quality motion effects, lens flare, lens blur, aperture diffraction, Revival restoration tools, film damage or film grain Resolve FX.
2. This free version of DaVinci Resolve 17 includes all of the same high quality 32-bit float YRGB image processing, editing features, visual effects and professional audio tools as DaVinci Resolve 17 Studio.
3. Hollywood’s favorite color corrector keeps getting better! You get advanced HDR primary color grading tools with unlimited secondary corrections, power windows and tracking along with a new color warper for refined grading, additional LUT support, shared grades, better noise reduction, faster stabilization, super scaling, dozens of Resolve FX plugins and more.
4. DaVinci Resolve 17 Studio also includes lens distortion correction, high quality de-interlacing, HDR (High Dynamic Range) grading with Dolby Vision support, stereoscopic 3D tools, remote rendering and more.
5. DaVinci Resolve 17 is the world’s only solution that combines professional 8K editing, color correction, visual effects and audio post production all in one software tool! You can instantly move between editing, color, effects, and audio with a single click.
6. The Windows App store version of DaVinci Resolve 17 works with Metal and OpenCL only, does not support some external control panels, and may not be compatible with all 3rd party OpenFX or VST plugins.
7. Whether you’re an individual artist, or part of a large team, it’s easy to see why DaVinci Resolve is the standard for high end post production and finishing on more Hollywood feature films, television shows and commercials than any other software.
8. If you need these features, please download DaVinci Resolve 17 from the Blackmagic Design support website.
9. The free version lets you work at up to 60 frames per second and can output SD, HD and Ultra HD resolution files and can also use a maximum of 2 GPUs within MacPro.
10. You can work faster than ever with dual timelines, source tape and smart editing tools.
11. A fast SSD or hard disk for video, 8GB of system memory, 16GB when using Fusion, Windows OS X 10.15.x or higher, at least a 1440 x 900 resolution display.

Doesnt launch, poor support contact
I downloaded this app and when I click ‘open’ the app begin the launching process and then shut down without even finish launching. So I try again from launchpad instead of App Store, and getting same result. So I went to Blackmagic website in hope to contact the support by email at 11:18pm eastern time zone as I am not in hurry to get this problem fixed but was hoping it would allow support 24-48 hours to reply from that time.. but only have to call them at their toll free number during the business hour.. that’s not helpful for a deaf person who can’t hear or speak on the phone. This is internet so come on! It is ridiculous not to have email support.. So 1 star is all they get.. if they werent 100% sure of the 16 version (which I believe is still in Beta according to their website) they should have stayed with 15 and let selective clients experiment with 16 so they don’t release app with bugs.
Once you figure out the learning curve, its FANTASTIC.
I'm a self admitted NOOB. I'm NOOB AF to filmmaking and/or photography. I am a first time editor. So after reading the reviews, making sure I had adequate equiptment that could handle this program, and made my own study book/DaVinci bible of laymans terms in ways I can understand, I find this program EXCELENT! And I also think it's unbelievable that the free version is so insanely ample and in-depth!! 100 percent a fan. Will continue to learn new things and rad ways to use this excellent program.
importing music wont work
importing other videos and photos work but when I try to import any music into the media pool, it wont work
Great Software
Ive never experienced an issue with using Davinci Resolve either downloaded directly from Blackmagic or the app store. Im thinking the other 9 people who left reviews have never worked with professional editing software or dont know how to use their equiment! You have to go to the media bin and go to the drive you want to use. BOOOOMMM theres youre files!!! ive been using Davinci since Resolve 14
Video FX Crashing
Hoping BlackMagic can remedy this. Some of the updates are a great and welcomed step up from Resolve 16, but each time I try to select something from the video fx, it crashes. Lost an entire project I didn't save. On me for not saving, I know... but still. I loved 16 and was considering buying the full version, but I'm naturally apprehensive about it now. After all, crashing was the reason I left Premiere and migrated this way. (btw, running a 2019 MBP 16, i9 2.4ghz 8-core, 32gb ram, 2tb SSD, AMD Radeon Pro 5500m 8gb. Shouldn't be having these issues.) Come through for us BM!
