Skitch Overview

What is Skitch? Skitch is an app that allows users to snap photos, mark them up, and share them instantly. It is used by people for various purposes such as for fun, home, school, events, and work. Users can mark up photos of things they find silly, cool, or inspiring and share them via social media, email, SMS, and more. They can also annotate photos of their backyard to plan out their vegetable garden, share diagrams with students, capture maps and mark them up to show friends where they'll be, and open PDFs to highlight changes and give clear feedback. Skitch's PDF Markup feature requires an Evernote Premium account, while an Evernote account is required to save to Evernote. All other capturing, mark up, saving, and sharing functions are free and do not require an Evernote account.

Feature request? “Focus” tool to dim surrounding

I use Skitch all the time. My favorite tool is Command+Shift+C to copy and share into another app. I have no idea where to make a feature request as all of the forums on Evernote are, well, for Evernote. Here goes. I would be cool to have a tool that lets you select a section of a screenshot and dims the area not included in the select. Kind of like what you see when you use the crop tool except leave the selected area at full color and the non-selected area dimmed. If there’s a better place to make this request, please let us know. Also, this red—phew. Need to stare at something green now for 5 mins ;-)

Alas poor Skitch, I knew ye well...

This was one of the great apps... and so was Evernote, at one time... but alas, first Evernote went sour for me when it started up that subscription plan (then relentlessly asked me to embrace it -- good god, how many monthly subscriptions do these app developers think we can stand? I'd rather pay more up front...) and then the infection spread to Skitch. Yes, it's still great when it works. Trouble is, it now crashes or freezes about half the time. I don't know, maybe it's something local to my system. But I doubt it. The updates just haven't come and maybe they never will. So I've bitten the bullet and shelled out top dollar for Snagit instead. So far, it seems... well... way better. But I would have gladly paid, say, $9 or so for a more reliable Skitch update.

    Must Have Utility

I use this app multiple times almost every day. The options to save in different file formats or just be able to paste in an email or document is a huge win. The fact that one can add lines, text, shapes and crop the image afterwards makes this a must have when trying to convey a thought or information without a lot of words. This app is a must have. It becomes even better when associated wtih a free evernote account. I like that I can see and access past screen shots for current references. I don’t know of a better app for Windows that does what this offers. Definitely 5 Stars.

One of my Go To apps on my desktop...

I’ve been a Skitch user since it arrived as an add-on for Evernote. I’ve come to rely on it many of my work and personal workflows. For example, at work I’ve used it to take screenshots, annotate these screenshots, and embed them into Evernote notes for use as simple and quick How To for clients. In my personal world, I’ve been using it to take screenshots of a fly fishing fly video of the finished fly as an image reference for a fly tying recipe. I was concerned a while back that Evernote was discontinuing this product but it looks like they’ve decided to keep it around. Excellent!

Definitely an essential and easy tool

Skitch is my go to tool for taking screen shots. It’s easy to use, has the features I need, and is always ready to go with the menubar icon. Its integration with Evernote is nice so that screenshots can quickly and easily be saved to Evernote. I also really like how the drag and drop works for an image where the skitch window fades away as you drag to make it easy to put the image where you want - e.g. in a folder or email. I have not found any other tool that works so well for screenshots. Thanks!!!!
