  • What does DuckDuckGo Privacy Essentials do? Tired of being tracked online? We can help.    DuckDuckGo Privacy Essentials comes packed with best-in-class privacy essentials and makes browsing Safari even faster.  Block Tracking Cookies — prevent most cross-site (aka 3rd party) cookies from tracking you as you browse from site to site. We also help prevent websites from tracking you with their own cookies by automatically expiring those first-party cookies after 7 days.  Escape Online Tracking — block most hidden tracking scripts lurking on the websites you visit (e.g., when you click on search results). Stop companies behind those trackers before they use sneaky tactics to try to collect and sell your data. See notes and links below for more information. After you install our extension, you’ll be asked to enable Tracker Blocking and the Privacy Dashboard within Safari. While the extension doesn’t include DuckDuckGo Private Search, it is built into Safari as a default search option. Enabling all three gives you seamless privacy protection.  Privacy, simplified. Note about our tracker blocking for 3rd-party sites: DuckDuckGo never tracks you. When you leave our search engine to use other sites, we aim to block as many hidden trackers as possible, but we can't block them all for a few reasons. New trackers emerge all the time, so first we need to find them. Then, blocking these trackers can sometimes break functionality, so we need to develop new approaches without hurting usability. Additionally, in our extension we offer a specific type of protection that stops scripts from even loading on 3rd-party sites, which isn’t offered on most popular browsers by default. Currently, this one loading protection doesn't apply to Microsoft scripts on 3rd-party sites due to contractual restrictions. However, our other tracker blocking methods are unrestricted.   More About DuckDuckGo  • About Us:  • Privacy Newsletter:  • Privacy Policy:  • Open Source Code:

    Software Reviews and Critisims

Helpful sidekick to Safari's existing UI (Multi-Device)

I've strictly used duckduckgo for browsing comfortably on iOS and desktop for years. Heres my two cents on what the folks at DuckDuckGo are doing: WHAT OTHERS CAN'T! At a currently rare price of $0.00, you receive an even rarer, comfortable interface on mobile. That alone shows how these devs don't cut corners and use their resources in a expertly manner. In PC, it is much the same. It works within the Safari browser, as an extension, where it becomes a second line of defense for tracker-blocking throughout the internet. Above all, their services prompted me to write a thourough, positive review. Thank you DuckDuckGo!

Sometimes, you just want to have fun ...

... and not have the world watching. Like others, I'm a big fan of the iOS version. In this case, I was a bit confused at first because it's not a separate browser. This is good and bad - good because you don't have to transfer all your bookmarks & preferences to a new app. The bad is minor. Because it's the same browser if you need to open recently updated files and don't want to clear cache, good luck on sites that are slow to update -or that just might be my site, in which case, no bad at all.

Was working, but now prevents other extensions from working

This seemed to work for a while after installing it, but something changed. Either the extension changed, or some update to Catalina broke it. Now, when I launch Safari, the only extension that loads and stays active is one of the DuckDuckGo extensions. My other DuckDuckGo extension (sorry, I cannot recall which one is which) is off, and stays off, and my two ad blocker extension also get turned off and I cannot turn them back on. I had no idea what might be causing it, but since only DuckDuckGo was active, I deleted the extensions and the app. And now, everything else works. So, something isn't right. Thus, 2 stars, and uninstalled.

Allowed Many Cookies to be Placed

I installed DuckDuckGo thinking it would provide me with some protection. And what it did was the exact opposite. It kept 45 cookies on my Windows. This is after I closed Safari, and reopened it. Then I checked. An easier fix is to delete your CACHE and history. Gone. And then reload DuckDuckGo. But you will have to do this frequently. It only takes 15 seconds so I do not mind. Developer responded: and they said that DukDuckGo does not delete cookies. I had thought that was the purpose to make my internet viewing safer and deleting cookies between session was one of the things that make a difference. Do it my way and it is easier to control who gets to see what in your browser history.

I had gotten all my family and pals to use DDGo and not its just gotten worse. U used to be able to contact them within a site to report issues as they work on growth. Cuz thats so private? Im not on it. Im on your browers logged into sites andas I scroll to botton of the site suddently it scolls right into your website. U know how long it takes me to get my administrator to believe im not logged in no matter what I do? HOURS. Wanna respond back? I have a PO box you can write me. Contact you on twitter.
