HP Smart? More Like HP Intelligent!!

I used this when I first got my first printer, an HP DeskJet 2732. The printer is an ink one. When I used this, it was ezy. Toooo smart for it’s name. Scanning is ezy(good job reforming after HP Easy Scan, which has an overall rating of 2 stars). Printing is ezy. What is with the hate? How is printing/scanning this easy? My dad used a Brother printer when he went to work which used ink and he reportedly said it waaaaaaaay too hard, but then his boss ordered HP ink printers and he said they were ezy to use. I don’t have to MAKE my assignments and complete them for school, I can just easily print them. And submitting them is waaaaaaaaaay too ezy when I scan them. If it doesn’t work for you, then at least tell them why. Write a review at least this long. The Instant Ink isn’t a scam at all. I see many short reviews that look as if they were written by people from companies that are rivals of HP. I would loooooooooooovvvvvvvvveeeeeeeee this app. Only rating it 5 stars because because there wasn’t any option to rate it 100 stars. This app is very very excellent. Now stop giving the software engineers a difficult time at HP. You must admit it. Very great app. I’m not a person who is paid to write reviews. I’m a kid who is thankful for HP for making my life easier at school. Kudos to HP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Poor support for non-working app

When it worked, it was great. After the most recent update (I assume), the app would immediately crash when I tried to open it. Re-started everything, re-installed the app, still no luck. I had to use the virtual assistant and ask just the right questions in order to access a live chat, since the virtual chat couldn't solve my problem. To do a live chat, I had to still have my printer under warrantly (lucky me, it still was), even though it was an app issue, and I don't think it should have applied. The live chat person directed me to another service. Note--the chat service was not open on the weekend, but the phone number was. I trouble-shooted with the person on the phone. She told me I had to directly contact Microsoft about a compatability error (I don't think that is something that would work), or I could talk to another group to help. I explained this to the next person, who told me that in order to fix the problem I would have to order a new service (I think it was something like My HP Friends) which would cost starting close to $50 a month. I told him no thank you. Not counting the virtual assistant and live chats, I spent an hour 40 minutes on the phone. Although I learned some work-arounds while we were trouble-shooting to see where the actual problem was, I'm still in the same place with the app not working.

    OUTSTANDING QUALITY!!!

HP has come along way with their products and the software that runs them. I've owned a HP Officejet Pro 8620 for about 2 years now. I used to cringe at installing or even updating HP drivers and software, but over the last 3-4 years installing, as well as updating their software has been truly seemless. Their quality has certainly improved vastly and continues too. My wife works with individuals with special needs and she likes to print out worksheets to complete some of these individuals goals at the center that she is employed with. These worksheets strengthen hand eye coordination, basic math skills, money counting, and sentence structure. She prints a lot and she has never had any issues with either her phone or her laptop communicating with the printer....EVER. She is not the most tech savvy of individuals and so even she can use their products and integrate them into her daily life. I recommend their products, whole heartedly. As a Field Engineer at Intel Inc. I use their products at work and my home and I their software improves with each update. You can trust HP again.

    Extraordinary. Terrible.

I'm floored by what a terrible idea this is. Using my scanner from my OS is janky and error-ridden, but the app offers a strealined experience. Except you have to be connected to the internet and logged into the HP account you're required to make to use any of the features. Why do I need to be logged in to scan a document? Well presumably so HP can get their copy of my document too, and that's why this is a truly terrible design and concept. HP is unabashedly and unapologetically forcing you to hand over ALL of your personal data and information, and there are no reasonable alternatives--it's overall a gigantic step BACK in terms of user friendliness and useability. I'm disgusted. But that's not even why I'm writing this review, I'm here because I got logged out of the app and I can't log back in now--no matter how long the wheel spins it never opens a browser window, so regardless of how hard I try to get the app working and re-establish HP's close connection to all of my most sensitive information I CAN'T because this product is so absolutely, magnificently, poorly conceived and constructed... What's clear is this interface is merely a cheap facade and no more than vehicle by which they operate their all inclusive executive campaign to shamelessly harvest your most confidential records.

App Frustrating, Printer Even More So

I set up my printer yesterday and printed the practise sheet. Today, I went to go print, and it was an hour long saga involving multiple resets, opaque error messages, conflicting advice, and honestly bad interfaces. For example, until I acively went into printer settings, it didn't tell me that I should align my printer heads. It just refused to print. And when I tried to scan a sheet, it kept skipping from Auto Feed to Glass. At first I thought I had picked teh wrong thing but on the third time, I was dead certain that the app or printer was switching from inputs. I have not been able to scan from auto feed at all and scanning by hand on the glass top is laborious. :( Finally I was actually very disappointed with the Instant Ink offering, which I had thought was a subscription wherein the smart printer would realise I was running low on ink, and then offer to order a replacement. cartridge. INSTEAD it's a metered "guess how many documents you'll print in a month" deal and if you go over, you get charged. I have variable needs but there's no subscription for what I envisioned, so I declined and will just buy cartridges the old fashioned way. That is if I do not first go all OFFICE SPACE on this printer, becaause this has been a FRUSTRATING experience.
