CompuBench CL Desktop Edition 1.5 Overview

What is CompuBench CL Desktop Edition 1.5? CompuBench is a professional OpenCL benchmarking app that tests and compares the parallel compute performance of CPUs, GPUs, and accelerators of desktop devices. Users can compare their results with other uploaded results on the Compare Page and the CompuBench website. The app requires an active internet connection and outgoing data traffic to run all tests. The collected data helps establish a database of results. The app includes tests such as face detection, optical flow, ocean surface simulation, particle simulation, path tracing, video composition, and bitcoin mining. Users can review the hardware and compute-related capabilities of their device on the Info Tab. For assistance, users can contact the CompuBench team via email.

Software Reviews and Criticism

    Doesn’t work with my GPU

This app could be helpful, but it will only test my CPU. If I try to test with the GPU, it starts loading the tests and then cancels, returning to a blank page with no results. No error message or anything.

    Looks suspicious

Well it passed all tests but last one (Bitcoin mining test) suspiciously hangs at the end without showing anything.

Hangs on multiple machines, 100% failure

App installs on OS X 10.13.4 then after beggining test, hangs with a perpetural spinning wait cursor. Tested multiple times on 2017 i7 Windows 27 and 2017 10-core Vega 64 Windows Pro — fails on both.

    Positively Surprised

I’m in the process to upgrade my Windows Pro to a better graphic card. I don’t do games, only video editing so OpenCL is important. I installed a GTX770 that works well but OpenCL benchmark don’t look so good. I installed a ATO R9 290X and it works but the benchmark identified a problem with T-Rex probably due to the fact that I don’t have the EFI firmware yet and the Windows recognize the card as generic AMD 7xxx The remaining benchmarks though look good and in my opinion are very realistic in term of reflecting the delta between the GTX770 and the R9 290 in OpenCL applications. With premiere and Final Cut I see real life results very similar to what I see with this benchmark. Unfortunately test aside I can’t use final cut probably for the same reasons why this benchmark fails on T-Rex, SW drivers. FCPX fails in certain function with the AMD/ATI card. I would reccomand this benchmark to anyone serious about tuning his OpenCL configuration
