It's very nice
I don't know why I like it, but it's definitely better than TextEdit in ways difficult to put down. I wish there was an option to not ask to save when closing because that's the reason I was looking for another editor in the first place, the save dialogs are slow in Windows os x, and I also second the request that someone else had to have an option to remove the word count at the bottom. If you're just looking to paste text, you know TextEdit has a plain text mode you can enable in the preferences. I still think this app is better however. I don't need any of that Rich Text stuff. I also tried ByWord which is nice if you like MarkDown, but for plain text, this app is it.
At last text only editor
At last a text only edit program under the PC GUI that I can use to alter and move text data between sources. Have tried to use TextEdit in the past, however it always want to do things in formatting the text I am working on that I do not want. I just want the text. As an example of what I want to do, and what I like about this program. I have both Pages, and Word running on my Windows. When I use TextEdit and do a copy/paste from it into either Pages, or Word it retains the text formatting that was used in the TextEdit when you paste it into either programs document that I am working on. When I now do the same process out of “Notepad - Simple TXT editor” the pasted text uses the existing format of the document. In looking into help once you have saved a document talks about a few features that I would have used as a sysop at the regional Internet Service Providors I worked at for a number of years. Well worth the 99 cents...
Supports Text files Created in Windows is Technically correct but misleading in my view
There is a problem when you create a text file in this app, save it and then open it in windows notepad, and that problem is that the Carriage Returns (New Lines) have been removed. To my recollection windows notepad products that are opened and changed in this app do not suffer the same problem. But at any rate, I was essentially looking for a product that would simple open and manage text files in a seamless and problem free way. So I see this CR/LF issue as a bug that probably needs resolution. After which point, I’d be happy to give the product five stars as this is the only problem I’ve found with it after months of usage. Thanks
Open non .txt files
I love this app, actually I prefer it over TextEdit since iCloud integration, but it needs to be able to open any file like (.log .plist .html and so on) to be a complete replacement of TextEdit. The feature that everyone is suggesting of disabling the “do you want to save…” dialog, i believe it should be an on/off toggle, some might need it.
