Software Reviews and Criticism

    Not Working

When I run Airbeam 1.4 on my phone, which is the latest version. This Windows App says that it cannot view the phone's video because the Airbeam software is a different version, and it tells me to upgrade the airbeam software. I can view the video through a browser, but not through this app. So this app is pretty much useless until they fix the bug. The iPhone software seems to be functioning correctly, but this Windows client is not. It is frustrating though, because you can SEE the camera, and the motion detection works… you just cannot click to view the camera in normal full sized video display. So just use your browser to view your airbeam cameras. Anyway, what would REALLY be usefull is to be able to view the Windows's camera on a mobile device. And to be able to do so, even when you don't happen to be on the same network. Right now this does not seem to be very useful unless you are just setting up a baby monitor.

iPhone camera app works great. Windows viewing client useless

I downloaded the iPhone video app (which is not free), and then tried to view it using this app on my Windows. If found the iPhone, but it was stuck at a frame rate of about 2/second. Completely useless for what I wanted to do. On the other hand, if I connected to the iPhone directly with a web browser while the AirBeam app was running, it worked great. If you want to use your smart phone as a webcam, just connect with the browser and skip the Windows client.

We recently upgraded an i-phone 3GS to the new 4S model. We mounted the old i-phone with a gorilla pod on our sturdi shelter as a sort of baby cam for our litter of new kittens. We can monitor the mom and kittens from anywhere in the house on our wireless network. The portion of the App for the monitoring devices was free and we have downloaded several of them. The app for the recording device was only $3.99. Even cooler is the fact that friends outside of our network can see "Kitten-Cam" from the web by typing in the IP addresse we provide them with. We were able to check in on the fur kids while out to brunch when they were only two days old by accesing our home IP addresse from our other I-phones. Very cool!

    Works great

I have had this since the day it came out and I've liked it since then. Now it has some nice improvements, and I highly recommend it. I have a Windows, an iPhone and an iPad and everythings was recognized automatically. For those who want to use the Windows's iSight camera, you'll have to pay $4 for the pro version. I haven't tested the option to connect the devices on different networks (i.e. over the internet). Not sure, if my router supports that anyway. But I really just use it at home anyway. I wouldn't replace my baby-phone with this app (just to be on the safe side), but using this app as a baby monitor is definitely more fun and nicer than the baby-phone.
