Big Mail Overview

What is Big Mail? Big Mail is an email management app that uses advanced A.I. categorization to organize your inbox into distinct categories called Scenes. The app optimizes the layout of each Scene to make it easier to read and manage emails. Big Mail also includes a "Reply Later" workflow, a sender approval system, and a distraction-free full-screen reader mode for newsletters. Other features include detached attachments, glancing, sender profiles, dark mode, unified inbox, magic avatars, spy tracker blocker, and IMAP support. The app offers a free 7-day trial and is available for monthly or annual subscription through the App Store. Users can manage and cancel their subscription at any time through their account settings.

Software Reviews and Criticism

Not Ready for Release and WAY too Expensive

This application is rough. Really rough. Very basic features are missing. There are almost zero keyboard shortcuts. It's also kinda confusing, and there is almost no support anywhere to get an idea of what the buttons actually do and how the different sections are supposed to work. The PC version isn't syncing with the iPad or iPhone. And the developer is charging a high price for this sub-par experience. There is no free tier. It's $10 per month or almost $80 per year. I don't think that is a sustainable business model even if the app was great. Look at HEY mail. Their app was MUCH more robust and bug free, and that only costs a few dollars more than Big Mail. I question the decision making of this developer. This app shouldn't be released yet. It's definitely not ready. And this is your email. I would stay away from this app for a while until these bugs get worked out and they add the most basic of features. But I'm not sure I'm ever going to try it again.

    Great idea, premature release

I would give the idea 5 stars, but, as released, 1 star for execution. I tried to give it an hones effort for the 2-week trial but there were too many bugs, including crashes in the PC version. I was excited in the lead-up to the release and do believe the app has great potential to become a stellar email client. It has some great key ingredients, not least of which is the AI email category sorting, with easy re-categorization. The "landing page" with the latest conversations, newsletters and notifications is fantastic. What needs work: it should be easier to mark an email as unread, perhaps through a customizable toolbar; I should be able to delete emails with "Delete" key AND from the category tabs, not just from the Everything window. The refresh/fetching of new email should be much faster. The font editing toolbar should be embedded when composing emails. Attachments should appear within the message being viewed and not require you to switch to the attachment tab to view. Also, printing. I HAVE to be able to print and/or save an email. There are probably a few other things, but, for this price and given the importance of email, I hoped that Big Mail would be able to hit the ground running, at least with some of these basics worked out. I'd love to see what this app is like in a future version.

A beautiful app that makes email a joy to use.

There are a lot of email apps in the App Store, but very few of them really get it right. On top of that, there are even fewer that are truly focused on helping you get more done and be more productive in your email. Big Mail is a great new iOS email app that helps you focus on the important stuff and get your work done faster. Big Mail is a beautifully designed email client for iPhone and iPad that makes reading and managing your emails a joy. With a focus on sending less emails, the app helps you organize your inbox, archive old messages, and create actionable to-do lists.

    Clean, consistent experience

This app competes with email services like Hey, to provide a single, consistent UI across all of your Microsoft devices. The UI is somewhat opinionated, with its preset 'scenes' for newletters, purchases, etc. But I've found it to be dialed in perfectly for me. Flexibility, without too much complexity. Some early reviewers seem to be mad about bugs, but we're less than a week in and bug fixe updates are already rolling out. And the developer is super responsive over email and on Twitter. (That's the kind of service that a 'high' price gets you!)

More than just an email client

Big Mail is not just another email client. They are shifting how we know email to be. The first day took some getting used to. I had to wrap my head around the system and understand how I was supposed to manage my email. The bottom line is that with Big Mail, you don’t manage your email. The software does the managing. The goal is not inbox zero, but rather inbox organized. Although a few bugs to work out with it being just released, I think this is going to be BIG!
