What is TextNow? The TextNow app offers free texting, picture messaging, phone calling, phone number, and voicemail services. It allows users to add a phone number to their Mac and text from a 10-digit number in the US and Canada. The app provides unlimited text and picture messaging, as well as unlimited calls to the USA and Canada. Users can also make low-cost and free international calls by adding money or completing offers. The app is completely free, with ads that can be removed by purchasing a premium subscription within the iOS app. The choice of area code does not affect functionality, and as long as friends are in the USA, they will not be charged any long distance.     Breaks after every update, here again reinstalling AD laden APP.

    It was great APP in 2009. It’s growth has caused me and a lot of people a lot of pain. Forget Tech Support, it all comes down to buying a new phone and computer and reinstalling the APP after every update. Support is great about finding ways to waste your time. Once they ask for screen shots, they are done with you….crickets. I prefered the way you could watch videos to earn minutes or simply buy them. Now, the ADS take over. Some even blast full volume while the Close button remains unresponsive until most of the ad has played. I am reinstalling after the last update, where the APP is doing a familiar thing. Opens, closes, opens, closes, without end. The phone is a bit better, it only opens and crashes a usual 3 times before remaing open. I am looking for another APP, but, I have had the same number for 10 years now, and would like the company to just fix the thing already.

    Needs Find feature for text - Latest version Crashes GPU of MacBookPro

    Latest version Crashes GPU of MacBookPro This program desperately needs a Find feature in the Edit menu for searching the text of a conversation. It used to lock up on ads but they seem to have solved that. Old issue: Normally this application puts up ads in the lower left corner. That's fine. I can look at them and the app still functions. Once in a while it puts up a modal dialog box and locks you into an ad which you can't get out of except by force quitting TextNow. For this reason I give it only one star. The app is a little kluggy. It needs refinement. For that I should deduct one more star.

    too much spam calls

    I mostly used it for texting on my computer. Some times the notification on the phone will not show up . And the worst thing about this app is I keep receiving spam calls.... which is super annoying and make me worry about security issues

    Great

    My only complaint is that it steals focus every time you wake from sleep or switch WiFi networks - that is, the window demands the OS's attention and TextNow shows up randomly on top of whatever you're doing. If it's full screen in another space, then the OS switches to that and you have to switch back to the one you're on. Also, for some reason on my Retina PC, it demands the high performance graphics setting, which doesn't do my battery any good.
