A few features that make it worth buying over the free version but...
Not sure I’d call the application “better” than the free official whatsapp client but it does have a few features that set it apart. First (and most important to me) is that it incorporates sharing into OSX. Adds the functionality to right-click menus and Safari, which is the reason I ended up buying the software. Second, top notification bar, allowing me to free up a dock slot - I find this really handy too. Third, it has a few customization options the official client doesn’t have (eg transparency). Fourth, audio and video recording support. Finally, better emoji support. That said, it’s a little clunkier. Clicking the buttons isn’t as easy and there is a lot of dead space (for example turning off notifications and opening the preferences menu). When you do successfully click on the buttons, there’s a delay before they pop open as well. I’ve also had more crashes and hangups than I did with the official app. All in all it’s good and expands on the free version of the whatsapp application. It’s worth the $3 I paid for it, but it could definitely use some improvements here and there before being a 5-star app.
Great app, tiny upgrade requests!
Love the app, it works great, but may I suggest that you guys fix the bug when you "delete a message', the message isn't actually deleted until you switch to another chat and THEN come back to it . Also, perhaps give us the option to NOT put a password on the app? And perhaps more theme options so we can change the INDIVIDUAL bubbles for certain people and ours? For example, in one of my chats with my girlfriend , iwant her bubbles to be pink and mine blue, but with chats in group chats, i want to assign each person a color so i can see better who's talking on the fly. You advertize yourself as an app better than original whatsapp? Go get em! haha
Much better than the official app?
You would the the geniuses at Facebook would write an app that allows integration with Microsoft's media sharing. But you'd be wrong. That is why Chatmate is worth buying. Attaching photos and movies is easy from the share menu. One smart talented programmer beats the pants off hundreds of Zuckerberg's finest.
Microsoft vs apps
The app is great. works as expected, reliable, etc. What i am NOT happy with is that i got charged 2x by Microsoft for putting the app on my desktop and my laptop... using the SAME Microsoft ID! When i requested a refund for the one - Microsoft rep gave me a hard time, which i find atrocious! I seem to recall SJ and TC always pruning us, theiir loyal customers - "seemlessly to all your devices" Perhaps you have more pull with Microsoft as to why this happens...
