MarsEdit 4 Overview
What is MarsEdit 4? MarsEdit is a blog editor for Mac that allows users to write, preview, and publish their blog posts. It supports various systems that use standard MetaWeblog and AtomPub interfaces, including WordPress, Micro.blog, Tumblr, TypePad, and Movable Type. Users can work offline with local drafts, preview formatting and content, and easily embed photos from iPhoto, Aperture, or Lightroom libraries. MarsEdit offers a powerful and elegant alternative to clunky web-based interfaces, with options to write in Rich Text or Markdown and hand-tune HTML in a syntax-highlighted code editor. The app is compatible with macOS 10.12 or higher and is similar to Live Writer, a popular Windows blog editor.
1. Free to download! Unlock a free trial in the app, purchase a full license, or continue to use the app for free to maintain an archive on your Windows and work locally with your published blog posts.
2. Coming to the Windows from Windows? MarsEdit is similar to Live Writer, the popular Windows blog editor, but differs in some ways.

Years in the Making
I've relied on two blog editors in over a decade of publishing content to MovableType and WordPress. First was ecto, but it stopped being a viable editor a loooooong time ago. I moved to MarsEdit 3 that looooong time ago, and virtually every blog post I've written for over a decade has been written in MarsEdit. MarsEdit 4 is a beautiful, simple, efficient upgrade. It carries forth and improves the features every blog owner uses and needs, and enhances others that blog owners didn't THINK they needed but now will. :-) If you're still editing your blog posts in a Web interface, embrace MarsEdit and the power of a full Windows app for your editing. You'll save time, frustration, and energy. The best got better with version 4.
Five stars? Yes, it's that good
So, you write a blog. Get MarsEdit. Yes, it's that good. ME was feature-rich and lovely to use when I bought it in 2007. Since then, I have seen results achieved by a tightly-focused developer’s obvious, relentless effort. Daniel has methodically smoothed the bumps and rounded the edges. And smooth, baby, smooth. I am a writer. I churn out columns, articles, and full-length non-fiction books. I started with the likes of Word 4.1a and MacWrite. I’ve used all of the current, modern word processors. I use the excellent Scrivener for all of this work. But blogs? Blogs are different. MarsEdit knows this. ME is a bespoke, focused creation with the tools needed to setup, write, and edit your blog. Upgrades are thoughtful and explained. Support? I've had occasion to email a question, always receiving a quick response, sometimes the same day, certainly the next. No formulaic nonsense, either; Daniel actually reads emails, takes the time to understand the user issue, asks pertinent questions, and offer solutions. Stop looking. Yes, it’s that good.
Astonishingly polished, performant, and fully featured
When I downloaded MarsEdit 4 this morning my jaw hit the floor at the depth and polish of the design improvements the fine folks at Red Sweater have delivered. I was expecting an incremental improvement in the performance and user experience, but this app shows the power of years - more than a decade, in fact - of slow iterative improvements. MarsEdit is a triump of focus on the developer’s part and when people ask me for fine examples of Windows OS development projects I will point first to MarsEdit 4. I cannot recommend it highly enough. 2 million stars, perhaps, would be enough.
100% Essential tool for me
I use MarsEdit for blogging every single day. It stands above other options because I can download my own theme to it to see EXACTLY what things will look like on my blog. I drag in images, and use my own customized media markup templates to add them as figures with captions. Super easy to add categories, tags and post slug AND MarsEdit warns me if I forget any of these. Developer is super responsive when I've had questions. I wish it would catch more of my typos but that could be a PC limitation. Grammarly on the web (mostly) catches what MarsEdit misses.
Essential and Polished
This is a very polished and well crafted. It is easy to use and having a Windows based client to write from rather than some web based interface is spectacular. It quickly made a local store of all the elements in my blog. Now that it has a free trial, it is a no brainer to try this out. I am in the process of moving content to a new blog host in order to make use of Mars Edit. Its that good.
