  Poor user interface, no audio controls

  The user interface is complex and gets in the way of simple tasks. Try recording a video from your screen using computer audio and computer video. There is no audio selection option. There is a grayed out video camera icon, but it may not respond when selected. Capto likes screen captures of still images, but why bother with this clunky software when a simple screen capture using Microsoft keystrokes will let you capture an image that can be imported directly into your favorite editor. The concept of a screen recorder app that does not have an audio interface control makes no sense. The App developers clearly never tested their product in the real world. Overall, Capto seems to be a failed attempt to update an older app, Voila, but the result is an awkward dysfunctional product that will waste way too much time trying to get it to function in what should be the bottom line purpose: record a computer screen video with simple controls to select window size and audio needs. Stay away from this turkey until the interface is improved and there is some proof that it actually works as described.

  Been using from 1 year to 2 years...

  UPDATE: One thing I like about the CAPTO developers is they make every effort to keep the application functional… the developer is involved with the application…. there are features I would like to see implemented… BUT I find this application FOR the Price … money well spent… I’m a user for almost 2 years and serves my needs WELL and OK... I’ve used for some time…. Mostly screen capture and meme creation…. I’ve used the Video capture and works OK as well as the Screen Capture… sometimes crashes but this could be attributed to the memory usage of the computer… for the Price I don’t think you can do better… computer memory is key… got only 4 gig? or 8 make sure you don’t have other applications open...

  Worked great until the latest update

  I’ve used Capto for about a year now, and it’s worked great for a low-features, cheap simple screenrecording tool. *However* the last update effectively killed any usability. Every recording I do now has stuttering audio, like REALLY bad stuttering audio, and by a few minutes in the audio track is way off from the video. I’ve tried recording shorter videos, tried smaller crop areas, tried converting to different formats…nothing works. Video records okay but the audio is a mess. I know it’s not the microphone because I use a Blue Yeti, and tried a recording with QuickTime...and it came out fine. Hope it gets fixed. In the meantime, my casting has increased so I’ve upgraded to Screenflow 8, but I still see myself using Capto for quick short videos…that is, if they can fix the audio issue. Otherwise, I’m out my money totally because it renders the app useless.

  Absolutely the Best!

  I'm a software developer and over the years I've used screenshot utilities to help document my software. I've been a longtime Snagit user. About 3 months ago one of our staff asked what she should get so I took a minute to see what options were currently available. She liked the interface of Capto so we purchased it for her on the app store. She's been raving about it ever since so I bought it and have been running on my PC (while keeping Snagit on my Windows Pro). Today, I switched to Capto on my Windows Pro, the interface, shortcuts and feature set are a step above Snagit. Awesome app, cannot recommend it highly enough!
