The Very Best Available At This Time
I have a VERY large library of Nikon Pro DSLR photos . My eyes detected a lot of duplicate photos . I have invested in multiple Duplicate Photo Detection / Cleaner apps - all worthless junk that can not detect what my eyes can detect , or are so uselessly difficult to use that they are a waste of time . Resolved to never try another Cleaner app , in despiration I invested in Duplicate Photos Cleaner convinced that it too would probably be another waste of money and time . Eureka , I was happily totally wrong : easy to use , very fast , precise , it even located duplicate photos that my eyes did not detect . It allowed me to select the duplicates to be trashed ( the longest part of the process ) and saved those I wanted to keep . I freed-up hundreds of megabytes of space / memory and now have the precise Photos Library that I want . Who could ask for anything more !!! A KEEPER - 100% successful !
Poor instructions and little support
The app identifies and deletes photos, but the instructions are minimal, there’s no phone support and help is provided via emails—and its frustrating to have a dialogue with emails coming back the next day. For example, the drag and drop process is not intuitive and frustrating. Once I figured out how to compare folders, it took about an hour to process—and that’s totally fine and understandable. I hit back space a couple of two occasions, only to discover, without any warning or prompt, that it deleted the hour long comparison. The customization options are fairly minimal and, again, there’s little instruction as to the effect of the changes in the online pamphlet or the website. I will say that the developers seem well intended and responded within 24 hours to my queries. All in all, unless you have innate instincts for using this app, you’ll be frustrated. On the other hand, its only $1.99, so you’re not out too much for checking it out on your own.
Didn’t work; used up all available RAM
Every time I ran this program on my Photos library it used up all available RAM, causing the system to halt the search. I couldn’t get around this problem even after restarting, closing all other programs, and trying whatever else I could think of. Pocket Bits’s tech support was unhelpful. They asked whether my computer had low RAM, but my computer is a powerful Late 2016 PC with the maximum 16 Gb RAM. RAM is not usually a problem on this PC, even when I run a virtual PC and heavy-duty research applications. This program is the only one I’ve ever seen cause this low RAM problem. Pocket Bits never refunded me my money even though the product didn’t work, although eventually I stopped engaging with their tech support staff, who just wanted to offer more ultimately unproductive solutions instead of refunding. I give 2 stars instead of 1 because the program does appear to work for many people, and it did identify a handful of duplicate photos before quitting.
Skip This One Too.
I based my purchase of this application on the review written by richnbev because my situation was almost identical to his description. While the interface is beautiful and it runs quickly compared to most programs of this ilk, it is completely useless on an actual functional level. I merged several old iPhoto libraries together from different computers and attempted to use this app to remove the duplicates from the resulting 50,000 photo plus library. While it did find about 2,000 duplicates it left behind THOUSANDS MORE that I had to remove manually because they were apparently not EXACT matches according to the companison structure in the programming. I had really high hopes that were dashed. Skip this one too, it doesn’t work any better than any other duplicate photo apps I have tested.
