Software Reviews and Criticism

    Don’t even bother

I wanted to like this, I really did. I spend more time chasing down errors than I do minding my finances. It isn’t compatible with my Credit Union and the manual balances don’t match up for more than a few weeks to a month.

Looking for a replacement for MacMoney...

First, their Support Unit is just fantastic. The software would serve someone well that is looking to track spending and income and follow a few stocks. I was looking for a piece of software that does accounting. Assets, Liabilities, Income, Expenses and a Profit. I was unable to do that. The checks printed the Dollar amount as One Hundred and five point zero five. That would be $105.05. That really doesn’t get it. But it does print checks and many of the Financial software out there do not. It is very inexpensive and the user interface was attractive. I would think in a few days a person with a modest need would be happy. Once again, their support unit was really outstanding.

    regret purchase

I hate to leave a negative review, I appreciate the work that goes into building a program but I am just not thrilled with this one which was by no means inexpensive. Why do I have to click so many buttons to perform the most simple tasks? Categories and reconciling for example take so many click click clicks! Repetitive actions should be simple to tab through without going back and forth from mouse to keyboard repeatedly. Categories should not need to be “programmed in” with each new vendor, should simply tab to categories and scroll/click for locations without going to mouse and programming each one. Reconciling items should require one easy action, not three or more, not three buttons simultaneously either, just one tap please. Perhaps not worth mentioning as it is a subjective aspect, I just don’t like the interface. I think in an attempt to make it “look simple” it looks almost elementary consequently it adds so many spaces, colors and lines that it’s cumbersome to quickly view. Laslty, I spent the extra $ for app to sync on phone and it is just not reliable. If I use it on one device, when go back to other it asks me which version I want to keep and delete, I cannot be confident I will not lose data. I would like this program more if it streamlined it’s appearance and daily use and made the cloud more reliable. Honestly if had been less expensive I would ditch it.

I moved to iFinance from Quicken, haven't looked back

iFinance has lots of great features. The ones I use the most are downloading transactions from all my banks via OFX/QFX files (I’ve had no problems importing QFX files, and import files on a weekly basis from about a half-dozen banks), syncing my data to iCloud so that I can use iFinance on my iPhone and  Watch, and setting up budgets to track my spending. I like to have lots of details about my finances, and iFinance let's me do that. iFinance is especially strong in letting me manage cash, credit, savings, and checking accounts. You can track stocks and mutual funds, but there's currently no way for me to import stock data (the developers said they'd look into adding this feature). I also really appreciate that I can use iCloud to sync my financial data between my Windows, iPhone,  Watch, and iPad. It lets me keep track of my finances no matter where I am. I also prefer to use iCloud since I have more control over my data, compared to other using other companies' cloud services.

    Update?

Hi, Thought I jumped on the 50% discount for the full version. Red a review about it and was all gangho about installation and use. Installation easy. No problem. The apparently easy setup for automatic Accounts and transfer of information not so. Kept telling me the connection to Bank failed. Tried different Banks. After reading the automatically created error log, finding that it tells me that the software I am using were outdated. Outdated? Now that is confusing, just bought it and kept looking for updates in appstore. So Developers first big thank for the thought but I am a bit disappointed about it not working. Perhaps when you get a chance look into it. Ps. will mostlikely have to uninstall and keep my manual one. You all be well and stay safe! Happy Holidays!!
