What is EarthDesk? EarthDesk is a desktop application for Macintosh that replaces the static desktop picture with a real-time dynamic image of the Earth, continuously updating in the background. The application uses current satellite weather data to display global cloud coverage with transparency and moonlight reflection, as well as accurate sun, moon, and city lighting. It offers four high-resolution maps, twelve map projections, and full multiple monitor support. EarthDesk also provides an optional auto-renewing data subscription for 3, 6, and 12 month periods, which includes high-resolution cloud data, near real-time earthquake and tropical storm tracking, and International Space Station tracking.

After purchase on Appple’s App store you will have to call vender

Once I got it working witht the fast help of the company that makes this, Xeric Design, Inc., It is a beautiful desktop walll paper that updates continually, I also purchased the data update so I can see clouds and storms in just about real time. There is a problem with Microsoft. In the app store version it doesn’t allow screen saver mode. When I contacted Xerric Design they quickly responded and showed me a work around. Other hight quality moving desktop wall papers and screen savers had had trouble with Microsoft. So I put the blame on Microsoft. There are many configurations. I love how I can label as many cities as I want. I can even watch where the Space Lab is in real time. I used it on my Windows 5K and the screen just pops with crisp color (adjustable) and it works very well on my PC. The reason for 4 stars is because Microsoft has caused trouble, no the Xeric Design, Inc. company (they get 5 stars for their product and quick response.

Really cool app, great support

I’m actually running v 7.1 of this app, slightly newer than the one in the app store. Lots of fun having this thing sit on your desktop or as a screen saver. Esy to configure, a surprising number of options. I also like that it can be configured for one monitor but not the other. I had some problems initially getting it to run correctly but the tech support was speedy and awesome.

Absolutely Stunning!

This is a beautiful desktop app which I now consistently use. Configuration is simple. It didn’t take me long to get a hold of the annual data subscription - well worth the money spent and amazing on my 27” Windows.

Broken after recent OS update

After a recent PC update the app is broken and will no longer function. I have uninstalled and installed it several times and nothing works. When it was working, it was a great app. Now it is totally non-functional.
