Very helpful, 2 suggestions/requests
This app works as advertised. The time stamps are very helpful. I would only have two suggestions. The first would be an easy way to remove or hide all of the timestamps at once - particularly when exporting. Also, I wish there were more options for exporting such as to a doc or pdf. (If there is already a way to do either of these things and I am just not seeing it, please let me know and I will amend my review.) Other than that, having the media file right next to the text screen does make the tedious task of transcription easier.
transcribing oral history
I’m using the program ( 2 hours now) to transcribe a a family history for a neighbor. There was help to get me started, not a lot, but enough to get the keystrokes down. Maybe they should let us ludites know you have to combine control, option, command or shift with a letter or symbol. It’s great. The money i’m going to save in felt tips, legal pads yadda yada. instead of a ton of notes on different pages i’ve got an organized file on my desktop four stars only because i’m new to the review thing
So far so good...
I was looking for some software I could use for transcriptions on a Windows. Most software was $40+ and I wasn’t willing to spend that to try it out. This was inexpensive, so I hoped it would fit the bill. So far, so good. The hotkeys work for play/pause and replay the audio. I wish it would work while I was typing in a word processor rather than on it’s screen, but I can copy and paste out of the file so it will work. The substitutions for labels like s1 turning into Speaker 1: is a bit more complicated. You need to have your replacements in the Text section of the System Preferences. The, once you finish typing, you choose Edit, Substitutions, Show Substitutions. That brings up another dialogue box where you can “Replace All”. Wish it would do it as I type, but again, it works and will save me time. For the price, it works for what I need.
Very helpful so far.....
Just started using this and it is so much help becasue it will backspace on resuming the audio so there are no missed words. I had already started a document in Pages so I'm not sure how it would work to export if typing the document in this App but will try that too. Really does help move the transcribing along and nice to be able to select my own control keys though it would be nice to have single key controls as mentioned in another comment.
