Scribe Overview

What is Scribe? Scribe is an app that allows users to copy text, links, numbers, and small images from their Mac to their iOS device without the need for Wi-Fi. The app uses Bluetooth Low Energy technology to provide a secure connection without draining the battery life of the devices. Users can view their sent history, copy, enter URL links, call or add contact numbers, and share items in a user-friendly interface. The app also allows users to route their copied items directly into other apps, such as Maps, WhatsApp, or Twitter. Scribe is compatible with all Macs and iOS devices that support Bluetooth 4.0.

Software Reviews and Criticism

    Don’t listen to ignorant pessimists

This app worked perfectly for me. I got the iPhone app for free, and opened it. I downloaded this Windows app, and as soon as I opened the Windows app, it saw my iPhone, and linked in a few seconds. Don’t listen to the other ignorant reviewers, because the problems they are having has to do with them having incompatible hardware. You have to have a Windows with Bluetooth LE (all newer Macs have this). It’s been working perfectly ever since and reliably syncs instantly with my phone. To be clear though, I will not be using Scribe not because it doesn’t work (it works very well) but because it lacks a big feature: two-way sending. I can send stuff from Windows to iPhone, but I usually never have a need to do that. Most of the time, I find stuff on my phone that I want to later work with on my Windows, and this app does not allow sending from phone to Windows. Until the developer adds this feature, this app is not that useful, at least to me.

    It works perfectly…and it’s SOOO PRETTY :D

Whoever did the art design for everything about this app, from the colors chosen in the help menu to the logo to the dynamic movement of the text on the help website…it’s gorgeous :D I realize this is the kinda thing most people overlook, but I appreciate it :] As for the functionality, it’s perfect for what I need. Beats using email to communicate simple text from my comp to my phone :D (Shouldn’t be writing this review, should be studying…)

    Really inconsistent

I really, really want to leave a good review for this app, but I just can’t because it’s completely unreliable. Something like this should “just work” in the way that an app like DeskConnect or Instashare “just worked”, but I love the idea of zero-configuration small file transfer. Unfortunately, 9/10 times that I try to use this app, it fails. It seems that this and Knock just don’t play well together. I’m not sure if only one Bluetooth LE app can function at a time, but something has got to give here. I use Knock all the time, and I WOULD use Scribe all the time except…it just doesn’t work. As such, I have to “knock” the ratings of both of these apps down a peg or two. Points to improve for a five star rating: 1. Stability. 2. Bi-directional transfer (send files from the phone to the Windows) 3. Multiple Macs. There may be hardware/protocol limitations that I’m unaware of, but I think it’s not unfair to ask you (the developers) to make us (the users) aware of this up front. Thanks!

    I like it

Just got it as a freebie, and had an immediate use for it. Installation and pairing was easy, and it just worked right away. I can’t ask much more than that. Or can I? :-) It would be nice to be able to send from the iPhone to the Windows. Even better, optionally using my existing WiFi would be nice. In any case, It did what I wanted, and without any trouble. Nice work.
