Loved It!
I’ve been playing Big Fish games on my iPad for a year and this was my first hidden object/mystery game on my PC running Yosemite and it worked great. Tons of fun! I loved the live-action human element. Lea Thompson from Back To The Future! Are you kidding me? How awesome is that?! She’s a babe too. The story was great, the mystery was great, and the hidden object scenes were great. It was kind of difficult and about 3 times I had to go to the online walkthrough to get past an area but that’s normal for me. I really enjoyed this game a lot!
Freezes
I loved the free part of the game so I purchased the whole game. However, as soon as I continue my game, it takes me to the hotel and there is no inventory bar or any way to move or get out of that screen. I clicked on the quary option in the menu (the extra level) and it has the same issue. Just the screen with no inventory or arrows to move. This is definitly a bug. Don't waste your money.
Free?
I would expect to at least play more than 1/2 of a scene for the free part. It’s a little decieving to tease and then just shut off the functionality within the first scene. It left me thinking maybe I didn’t “examine” correctly. But really the “preview” was pretty lame. No thanks.
Crashes
Says it's supposed to be compatible with 10.6.6 or later; I have 10.6.8 and the program won't even launch; just goes to an immediate error.
A standout among HO games!
My wife and I have been fans of the Big Fish style HO games for years, with Mystery Case Files a reliable selectiom. Shadow Lake is a real standout. The story behind the game is relatively nuanced. This was not a cookie-cutter game by any means! The live action stuff isn't just 'blah, blah blah' - it's well scripted, well-done, and delightfully cast, and contributes a lot to the unusually engaging quality of this game. The characters in this story bloom compared to most of the genre, and really do develop... character which contributes to your imvolvement in the game and its story. Tough puzzles, a large playscape, but the go-here, go-there, go-back-and-get-that-then-come-back stuff, as pioneered long ago in Zork ("Adventure") in text, never seemed senseless. Many of the puzzles seemed to us to require both our minds: it was especially good for two players together. Running Catalina, never had a glitch or a ripple in the program. Fine work!
