Software Reviews and Criticism

Downloaded specifically to avoid using a browser

Just downloaded this app because I wanted to use something that was specifically for watching netflix at 1080p. If you’re reading this, you may or may not be aware that most browsers, i.e. Internet Explorer, Chrome - do not support 1080p playback from netflix. I believe it’s something to do with not having certain rights. Anyway, this program plays movies from netflix at 1080p. You can see the difference vs playing it on a regular browser and as a bonus you can use it for other services too. I’ve been using it for a whole 15mins and I can honestly say this is a great app to put all those services in one place for your Windows. Get it, it’s free and it works.

    Simple is better.

When I wanna watch, I just wanna go to the content. I don't want things reorganized or reframed; which is why I have always used a browser. But this little app (which basically operates like a browser with clever features) streamlines my content viewing without needing to open a million browser tabs. I am really glad they made a simple way to consolidate my content viewing. I would LOVE if they also made turining it on/off capable by keystroke rather than mouse click, but that is a TINY criticism. The app just works, works well, and keeps things simple for when it's time to view.

    Amazing!

I don't normally write reviews for anything, especially apps but this one deserved a review. I absolutely love this streaming app. First off, the quality is sooo much better than watching on the normal internet browser. I also love the feature of "picture in picture" so you can still watch your favorite shows/movies while getting work done at the same time. I wish I discovered this before graduating college, because studying would have been more enjoyable, lol. It's free to download so just try it out! I don't think you'll be disappointed.

    Yay!

We’re living fairly remotely half the year, without grid electricity, and only get cell coverage in the last few years. We run an inverter/ generator to recharge computers & cordless tool batteries daily, and get our internet access via a Verizon Jetpack (hotspot). When it gets dark early, it’s nice to be able to watch a few hours of TV before going to sleep. We had been attempting that on a web browser, but had so many interruptions that it wasn’t worth it. Friendly Streaming has mostly eliminated the pauses (while it buffered), and has allowed us to enjoy Netflix or PBS. Yay!

    Solid Streamer

Honestly, this is the only 3rd party streaming app that I've ever used, so it's possible there are others which are superior, but in general, this does what it ought to, and seems to do it pretty well. Netflix plays smoother, and looks better than it does when I stream using a browser application. The only real suggestion I woul have is the option to have a detached transport control (etc.). Would be great to be able to see the artist/track, like/dislike the track, etc. without having to toggle apps, or have the player taking up valuable screen real estate when I'm on a single display. Would be fantastic if it could be in the menu bar, but given that not even iTunes does that, that's probably a bit much to ask. In general I'm stoked on this app so far, will probably remain my main OSX media streamer for the foreseeable future.
