Great Buy
After buying a new mbp for school, I decided to use 10 dollars of the 100 dollar gift card given to me on this game. Being a full time student, I don't have all too much time to play, but I have definitely played enough to say that this game is great and very thought intensive as the puzzle-like game-play get increasingly difficult as the game progressses. I would deffinitely recommend this to anybody who is up for challenges that cannot be solved in one sitting. Just a warning though - this game probably is not the best for quitters or people who get easily frustrated, because some of the levels may appear impossible to naive eyes. I've actually finally beaten the game and discovered that there are some hidden stars located around the world, which together are supposed to make the andromeda constellation, which goes to show that there are tons of things to do in this game. Get this game!
Amazing gameplay, amazing story
Truly an amazing game. Many games (see Prince of persia) use the aspect of time in the gameplay, but few do it as well as Braid. It is a platformer/puzzle game at heart, but is engaging enough to attract the people who dislike the methodical pace of puzzle games like Machinarium (though that game is great as well). Its story seems simple enough, saving a princess, but is hardly what it seems and eventually draws on both real historical events and universal themes to convey its message. My only real complaint is that the story and gameplay feel too disconnected, its almost as if you need to devote one playthrough to gameplay before you can even think of how the story fits togehter. Nevertheless, its a great game and one which many people may not have heard off, but is certainly worth playing by all.
Smart, difficult, and rewarding.
Braid is 3 things: 1) a difficult puzzler that demands thought and innovation from the player 2) an artisitcal masterpiece 3) a subtly symbolic story about man's search for power (if you think it's just about saving the princess, think again!) I just finished the game today and I am very glad I bought it. If you are thinking about buying it, don't get put off by how hard it is right off the bat. Keep playing even if you don't get all of the puzzle pieces right away. There is a bit of a steep learning curve for this game's dynamics, so don't give up! I got stuck within the first 10 minutes of playing and didn't actually figure out how to get 2 puzzle pieces from world 1 until I had gotten to the next to last world. Playing this game is equally as rewarding as it is frusterating and if you play to the end, you will find the storyline to be much more than it originally appeared to be. On top of all of that, the game is simply gorgeous and the music is awesome. Don't Buy If: -You hate quality games -You want mindless action -You can't appreciate art -You hate platformers -You give up when presented a challenge SERIOUSLY GO BUY IT AND PLAY TO THE END!
just wow
This game has such a unique artistic feel. Even if you aren't moving, it's still enjoyable to look at. But once you get into things, the game just continues to impress with challenging puzzles and a use of time manipulation that is just utterly brilliant. Though it isn't obvious how to go about certain puzzles (and small tutorials could be helpful), you quickly pick up new options just by playing around and observing what changes and what doesn't to the world around you. For anyone on the border about whether or not to purchase this game, it's a no-brainer. Buy it!
