UTM Virtual Machines Overview

What is UTM Virtual Machines? UTM is a virtualization app designed for macOS that allows users to run Windows® 10, Windows® 11, Ubuntu®, or macOS(*) fully virtualized with maximum performance. It uses the QEMU system emulator in a sandboxed environment to protect data from viruses and malware in the emulated operating system. UTM supports over 30 processors, including ARM64 and Intel/AMD operating systems, and allows users to attach USB devices to their virtual machine. The app also provides an easy-to-understand UI for creating and configuring VMs. However, UTM has some limitations, such as no direct mounting of external disks and drives, limited copy-paste functionality, and no GPU acceleration for Windows®. Additionally, macOS virtualization is only supported on Apple Silicon Macs running macOS 12 and up, and Linux with Rosetta is only supported on Apple Silicon Macs running macOS 13 and up.

UTM Virtual Machines Features and Description

6. Designed for PC using the latest and greatest Microsoft technologies, UTM is built from the ground up with the Windows in mind.

8. PC 12 does not support USB sharing, copy/paste, or dynamic resolution.

9. We hope to support at least some of these features in the future.

    Not ready for prime time

    I purchased this app and a Windows mini m1 to run Windows OS 9. I have several applications that my business requires that run only on OS 9. I was hoping this app would allow us to purchase new Macs and migrate to a new OS while still using OS 9. The issue is the program does not run and there is absolutely no support. None. No phone support, no email support. None. There are people in this world that want to work and others who want to play. Turning Software wants to play, and this is an incomplete toy, not a viable solution to live up the promise. They should concentrate on each virtual PC and build a full install program that executes without errors. In the OS 9 case, the cursor would disappear every time you attempted to access the OS 9 virtual PC. No attempt to modify the install, which should never be required, fixed this problem. I would have paid a $1000 to Turing if this program worked, and Microsoft would have sold a boat load of newer computers.

    Love this! Needed a replacement for Virtualbox

    I really want the features to keep coming, Dev! I needed a replacement for VirtualBox on the M1 and this fits the bill. I'm virtualizing PC 12 and just need directory sharing with the host or a second network connection that host-only network and it'll have everything I need! So simple to use too! Keep up the good work Dev! Thanks!

    Developer workflow enabler

    Clear simple interface, good defaults for QEMU, accessible customization if you are familiar with the tooling from Linux. I had such a good experience with the free version that I wanted to show support for the developer by purchasing. Add a donation button to your github page or website please. Keep up the good work!

    This can't do everything, but it's a clean, easy emulator that got XP up and running in minutes. You cannot beat the price for the value that this interface and its pre-built templates bring. This is how you add value and polish to open source tools.

    wifi fix instructions

    i could not get arch, deb or ubuntu to connect to the network. so i fould an updated video that showed how to. now it works great if you install from the utm file you need to : $ Ip a (find which address has internet (mine: enp0s6) $ Cd etc/network $ Sudo nano interfaces $ Edit # The Primary Network interfaces line Allow-hotplug enp0s6 Auto enp0s6 Face enp0s6 net dhcp Later need to do this to get updates: $ Sudo apt-get —allow-release info-change update if install from debian .iso : $ Su root $ Sudo usermod -a -G sudo (user) $ Groups (user) $ Apt update $ Apt install spice-vdagent spice-webdavd
