    Much Better Than Day One

I have been journaling electronically since before the first iPad arrived on the scence. My “goto" program for years was Day One (Classic Version). I loved the intuitive interface. When the update came out for the 2nd version of Day One, I was completely disappointed with the changes. I spent more time trying to figure out how to fix my program than I did writing. It was a constant source of frustration. I moved back to pen and paper. Then, I found this little gem on the app store one evening while I was browsing for a possible replacement program. It works. It works great. It’s reliable, intuitive, and made for journaling. I would happily throw money at the programmers to keep this baby in development. This is a diamond in the raw. I can see tons of possiblities with just a few additions to features. As it stands, it gets the job done in a pleasurable way. Try it. *Note to development Don’t make the same mistakes Day One made. Don’t overdevelop. Or develop too fast. Take your time to do it right.

I was hoping for a Day One replacement but…..

I had high hopes for this upon initial install. It had everything I wanted for a reasonable price (compared to Day One) and video support. Unfortunately all it took was a few minutes of tinkering to dash those hopes. For starters, how is there no context menu or track pad slide support for anything on the PC version? The only option to delete an entry is to drag and drop into the trash. Okay, it took me a minute to figure that out but I’ll let it slide. Then, after importing Journals from Day One, I realized I no longer needed some of them. I proceeded to delete those as well. But wait, no drag and drop (the method mentioned above) No context menu? That’s right, you have to highlight the journal and hit delete. Where’s the consistency? I was willing to forgive these minor gripes cause I assumed this was a new app. Nope! It’s been around for almost a year. I mean this is UX 101.

    Love this app!

Lifecraft makes me want to write every day. Even if I skip sometimes, I remember after a few days and come back to it because I look forward to interacting with it. The interface is just right, not extremely simple, but not overly complicated. The colors are so much fun! AND the developers will listen to your feedback. I’ve interacted with them when it first came out and they’re very open and eager to improve. If you have any new ideas, feel free to contact them. They’re extremely helpful with any issues you may be having as well. I don’t usually compare products openly, but I’m going to say it. I like Lifecraft better than DayOne! 6/5 stars.

Love it, but fix the bugs please!

This is a great app. I switched from Day One when they got ridiculously expensive. It took a litle time to adjust, but this app offers all the important features from DayOne without trying to do everything. I was a little worried about the compass and challenges, because I just want a journal app. Don't go overboard, Lifecraft. What you have is good - don't keep adding stuff! I have to admit, though, so far I like the challenges. The compass messages are so-so...when I get them. And the dashboard never records everything I've done in a day. Another problem is that the calendar is a little annoying to navigate. Better in the update, but seriously, why not just let us plug in a date, or a year, why this one year ago, two years ago, etc. Anyway, really a five star app, but it needs the kinks worked out.
