1. We've included a mate puzzle generator to create an almost infinite variety of checkmate puzzles that allow you to sharpen your chess instincts, and multiplayer modes that allow you to use your device as a virtual chessboard, or play via bluetooth or wireless with a local opponent.
2. At lower levels, it makes blunders of a straightforward kind that are easy to spot, but at higher levels more careful play is required to take advantage of more subtle tactical and even strategic errors.
3. Most modern chess engines are so tactically strong that extremely careful defensive and anti-computer play is required to make any progress; in other words, it's nothing like playing a human.
4. We've also added a "Time Control" mode, to allow you to play using standard chess time controls, rather than a predefined difficulty level.
5. We wanted to create an engine that allows for a more human, strategic style of play where there's room to take advantage of the occasional blunder.
6. Primus is an entirely original, modern chess engine specifically designed for the intermediate player (up to 2000 Elo).
7. - Puzzles and practice levels, so you can practice your endgames or play some interesting challenge levels.
8. At its highest levels, Primus plays at around 2000 Elo, but even at the very highest levels, it still has occasional simulated lapses of concentration.
9. The engine was conceived out of frustration with the overwhelming tactical strength of modern chess engines.
10. - Mini-tournament mode - a six-game mini tournament mode for the more serious player.
11. It has been carefully tuned to play less like a PC and more like a human.

Terrible Crashes
Primus Chess appears to be a reasonably nice and full featured program. The UI is a little clunky but I really did not have a chance to explore much before the game started crashing. Each crash was worse than the last which so completely locked my PC that I had to cut power to my Windows to regain control. This is a shame as I have not found others programs on the app store with similar features. I have reluctantly asked Microsoft for a refund.
Good at first, but...
App worked well, and then… it took about five days for it to freeze up under the “unknown error” notification multiple times. Playing against the highest level was strangely impossible. I’d make a move, and the computer would take upwards of two minutes to “think” about the move before it is made. Won’t let me resign or quit the game. Considering the other chess options available, I don’t recommend wasting $5 on this one.
Awful
Since as of the latest OS-X update (12.2.1 at this writing), Microsoft still hasn't fixed the levels problem in its Chess app, I was looking forward to this game. What a disappointment! There is nothing about this game that would cause me to recommend it. The interface is archaic--like 20 years out-of-date. The game immediately launched a move as white, with no apparent way to switch sides. The "Back" function didn't start working until about the 5th or 6th attempt to use it, and at one point the game froze. I immediately requested a refund.
