Chronicle Overview
What is Chronicle? Chronicle is a bill management app available for iPhone, iPad, and Mac. It reminds users to pay their bills and keeps track of payment history, including confirmation numbers. The app syncs across all iOS devices and Mac, and offers a Pro version with additional features such as Forecast View, Amount to Save, Intelligent Estimated Amount Due, and Chronicle Cloud for backup and sharing. Chronicle Pro is an auto-renewing subscription that can be canceled or disabled through the App Store Account Settings.
1. In addition to reminding you to pay your bills, Chronicle keeps track of all your payment history, including confirmation numbers, so you always have proof of payments.
2. Chronicle Cloud: Backup your bills to the cloud, sync across all your iOS devices, and share with a partner, spouse or business associate.
3. Using the type of bill, your payment history, and the time of year, Chronicle will intelligently calculate an estimate of how much is due.
4. Many bills don’t repeat every month: for these bills, Chronicle will calculate how much you need to set aside each month so that you have enough to pay it when it comes due.
5. Plus, Chronicle syncs with the available Windows version, so you can view and pay your bills everywhere.
6. For example, Chronicle will be able to learn if your electric bills are higher or lower in the winter, and estimate accordingly.
7. Chronicle will calculate that you need to set aside $83.33 each month in order to have enough to pay the bill each time it is due.
8. Chronicle reminds you to pay your bills, so you can just enter them, and forget about them.
9. Available as an in-app purchase, Chronicle Pro gives you access to all new features of Chronicle as they are updated.
10. Chronicle Pro is an auto-renewing subscription.
11. Cloud sync works across all iOS devices plus Windows with the available Windows version.

Love this app! It is perfect for brains like mine!
Here is the thing...I am impatient with bells and whistles. I like things to look nice, but when something starts getting multiple moving parts that are necessary in order to have the basic function that I need, I get annoyed. I tried so many financial apps before Chronicle. All I wanted was to enter the date bills are due, be reminded when they are, and keep a logical historical record of when they were paid and how much was paid. Mint, Quickbooks, Microsoft Money, etc., etc. all are just too much for my purposes. And, having to connect my bank account to an app, especially to some of the apps whose developers I have never heard of, is NOT ok. That is never going to happen. So, Chronicle is easy to look at, simple enough to navigate, backs itself up like apps should (many do. It), and keeps me on schedule for monitoring both my and my elderly mom's bills. I can even look at just her bills or my bills thanks to tags. This app is perfect. If features are added in the future, maybe those would be a great addition, but for now, I am a totally satisfied customer. The customer service has been top-notch every time I had a question as well. How many apps can boast about those last two items with their customers?
Won’t automatically mark bills as paid
I use this app in conjunction with Bills Monitor Because I like the view of Bills Monitor better (it’s so much simpler and less busy) but as a paranoid person I enjoy having a back up app. I only use this to keep myself on track with bills and not to actually integrate with accounts and pay the bills. However, in the past month, all of my bills in this app that are set to pay automatically simply won’t do so. They are all now showing up as 20 days late even though when I click on the bills, they are specifically set to pay automatically. This is completely ruining the experience for me and rendering this app useless. I can’t delete the bills and re-enter them because then I would lose the entire history of them that I have tracked for the past few years and that is not acceptable. Because all of these allegedly unpaid bills are showing up at the top of my list, I cannot quickly open this app to see when my next actual bill is due. Within the app, there is no easy way to contact help or support. I am finding a common theme amongst developers where they issue glitchy apps and then make it exceptionally difficult for you to actually communicate with anyone about it. I was actually considering upgrading to the pro version of this app but given the major flaws already and the inability to actually get support, I will not be wasting my money.
Automatic payments not marked as paid
Edit after the developer contacted me: If you have automatic payments that showed as due soon, then fell off your due bills list (because it was automatically paid) before this app had a major update, you now need to go into Settings and make changes in the Automatic Bills section. The text below the two buttons says “If off, automatic bills will not be included in in [sic] the count of due soon bills on badge, and will not be shown in the home screen widget.” This is confusing because I had both sliders set to what is typically the off section. When I click them, they go green which indicates on. By setting them to green, the “overdue” bill does disappear. But I could absolutely understand someone else reading it the way I did and not toggling them on. I also don’t understand from a customer/UI standpoint why this was added to Settings with no notice as automatic payments behaved just fine before. I would not have known to look there if the developer hadn’t responded. Like other reviewers, I have a bill that is on automatic payment. Since the last Chronicle update, the bill is marked as auto pay in the settings but is still in the overdue payments section. It should not be. Please fix this. I am very happy with the app otherwise.
Simple, yet Effective!
I cannot express how much this app has changed our lives when it comes to staying on top of bills! I very rarely leave reviews on apps, but after using this one for a couple months, I feel the need to express my opinion. It is a very simple app to keep track of your bills. Nothing fancy. It sends out reminders to me when things are due, I love how everything is color coded, and you can pick icons for each bill! One of my favorite parts is after I log a bill payment saying that I paid a bill, a voice comes on and say “Great Job!” and “Way to go!” 😂😂 Even as an adult, I love the positive words of encouragement for paying my bills! Adulting is hard! Must have app! I even upgraded to the paid version (6 bucks a year) to be able to see the history and track how much I am paying every month in bills. It’s pretty neat and well worth it. Thanks for creating a great app! 😊
