Battery Guru Overview

What is Battery Guru? Battery Guru is a menu bar app that displays advanced information about the current state of your battery, including the time remaining, current capacity, number of discharges and recharges, manufacturing date, temperature, and current charge percentage. It also monitors the amount of milliamps your battery is using at any given moment, allowing you to identify and close any apps or webpages that are draining your battery faster than they should be. Battery Guru helps you get more life out of your battery per session and be more aware of what is going on in your system.

Battery Guru Features and Description

1. Battery Guru will monitor and present realtime information on exactly how many milliamps your battery is using at any given moment and display it in your menu bar.

2. If you have Lion and a more recent PC your OS will automatically switch between the two, but sometimes you will have an app or a webpage open which holds the power hungry graphics card open unnecessarily draining your battery.

3. Battery Guru is a helpful bar app that resides in the menu bar and displays time remaining & advanced information about the current state of your battery.

4. Battery Guru is your means of accessing it, allowing you to monitor the current state of your battery and be more aware of what is going on in your system.

5. As your computer comes with a "Smart Battery" your battery actually already knows this information and holds it internally.

6. This way you can keep an eye on the number, and if it gets too high you know that something is draining it faster than it should be and you can investigate and close the offending page or application if you're not using it.

7. Having a Flash application open in one of your tabs is a common cause of this.

8. 1) Sometimes an app you are not even using will sit in the background constantly using 100% of one of your processor cores.

9. It secondary function is to provide information that you do not usually have access to.

10. One that uses little power, and one that is much more powerful but uses significantly more power as well.

11. 2) As you may know your PC actually came with two graphics cards.

Pros:

  • - Great for tracking battery health/info
  • - Can pinpoint problems with battery usage
  • - Shows exact info on mAh usage at a glance in the menubar
  • - Good model, but could be fleshed out a bit more

    Great “little” app

For better tracking of battery health/info this is a great app. Not quite sure why the % of life changes, but may be part of the charge/discharge intricities of the Li batteries. One may be surprised how much mAh are being used even on the charger when using intensive CPU (i.e. web site live video); at times even more than the charger/battery can keep up with and the battery starts to charge. Was concerned when my battery capacity dropped to 93% (+/-) but after a good “workout” on battery it is back up to 96.3% - not bad for an almost 3-year-old MBPro original battery.

See why your battery drains while you work!

After installing a new battery in my late-2008 Pc (aluminum), I was disappointed because it wasn’t providing much of an increase in battery life. With this tool running I was able to pinpoint my problem was Safari. In particular, Flash and some other plugins that were chewing up battery, even while the PC was sleeping. Problem now solved - plugins disabled. Really like this app. It is like the MPG or KPG computation on a car that allows you to see how your drivig behavior affects fuel efficiency.

    Neat little app

When Microsoft killed the time remaining clock on the battery menu item, I went looking for a replacement. This is a good way to monitor how fast your battery is draining, which is not an exact feature match, but it’s still very handy to have all this information at your fingertips. Note: There’s a v1.6 available on the developer’s website that is Mavericks-compatible and should post to the App Store soon.
