  An Excellent Compressor

  This video compressor simply delivers excellent results with very little input from the user. It also has the unique ability to re-wrap a previous compression without going through the quality loss of a de-compression then re-compression cycle. For example, Microsoft’s compressor uses H.264 and wraps the result in a .mov file. Although we use all Macs, clients often have PC’s. When Microsoft decided to stop supporting Quicktime for Windows, we were forced to deliver client screening files as MP4’s. We were able to covert 50 standard def H.264 .MOV files into .MP4 files with no visible quality loss using the Sony PS 480P setting. I would never use an inexpensive compressor like this for on-air broadcast station files, but it’s perfect for client reference files. Also, the program’s so fast that you can try different settings and see what works best for your application. At less than $10, you can’t do better.

  Quick and Easy

  This is a fantastic app for the money. I have been using Wondershare Video Converter to convert videos for the Microsoft TV Gen 2 and I could never convert 720p video due to the fact that the audio did not match with the actors lips, it was like watching a bad chinese film. Also Wondershare would take up to 45 mins to covert a 1 hour long 720p video. With this app it literally does it within 8 to 9 minutes and the audio syncing issue is no more. I paid over $35 dollars for Wondershare. This app is very easy to use and I highly recommend it. This is inexpensive and I have found my new converter. The GUI is not very pleasing and could use some polishing but it does not take away from this app at all. Buy it, it just works!

  Nice app

  Decent performance and batch processing, especially .mkv to .m4v for Microsoft TV. Reason for 1 star “ding” is that, while it has the capability to select an alternate audio language track for conversion, it doesn’t provide a way to make any particular language the “default”. For example, with one set of files I have, track “0” is listed as “fre”(nch), and track “1” is listed as “eng”(lish). It *should* be possible to somehow tell it to always select the “eng” track, regardless of track number, unless “instructed otherwise” via Advanced mode. Consequently, when converting large numbers of files where the language I want isn’t the default/first listed, I have to do them manually one at a time, which becomes time-consuming. You *can* drag in a group of files to start a batch, but you still have to change the language in Advanced mode on each individual file; there otherwise don’t appear to be any “batch” or “global” settings.

  Works where others do not

  I have a fairly simple need: to get WMV files onto my iPad so I can watch them when travelling without needing to haul out a Windows laptop. However, I had a number of files that I had tried to convert using a variety of tools in the past: even Microsoft’s own Flip4Mac — and none of these were ever able to convert the files. In fact, I couldn’t even playback more than the first few seconds / minutes of them regardless of the player I tried to use on my Windows. I’m very happy to see that this app is able to convert ALL of these previously troublesome files. And they play back in their entirety, just fine, on my iPad.
