Decent app
The bad: There is no fullscreen capability, which is a huge deal to me when I’m trying to multiple windows. There’s a pop-up for a website for you to join that sometimes doesn't go away which I do not want to sign up for. The voice recorder is absolutely useless and should be removed. Some of the voice-overs for words are clearly wrong, and others are missing. The flashcards sometimes get stuck on a math error and do not let you proceeed with the testing of a full set. Expect to know how to read basic Hebrew before you start. There’s no syncing your progress with iCloud. The good: The clip art makes words recognizable in your head. There is a great progression through the language, and when you do get the flashcards working, it is done very well. It shows you the Hebrew with the vowels and without when testing you as default, and you can change the way you are presented with words to make it more difficult. The categorization is top-notch: you can pick many kinds of sets to test in. The practical samples are helpful in understanding different iterations of how words are used in every day speech, and the top Israeli word category is a great bonus. Desipite the many nit-pickings and bugs, the app is very useful, and extremely cost effective. Rosetta Stone is good for learning sentence structure, which is really not that hard, so this will help you fill the gap with vocabulary very fast if you are consistent with it.
Learn Hebrew Vocabulary - Gengo Wordpower
I enjoy the app for learning Hebrew vocab, but it doesn't always work. When you click on the Hebrew word, you are supposed to hear a native Israeli speaker say the word. That doesn't always happen. In addition, you're supposed to record your own voice and compare it to the native speaker. That doesn't always work either. If you already know how to read Hebrew, you can most likely figure out the pronunciation. However, it would be better to be able to always hear the native speaker pronounce the words. I'm not sure I would have spent 9.99 on the app if I had known that it isn't consistent.
Lousy
There's no order to the list of categories, and many overlap. There's a category for Body with only 4 cards, but then Describing the Body and Upper Body and several others are different categories. I have no idea what the navigation is other than to click and hear the word. Except this doesn't work either because the all-important Hebrew is missing: Look at sample image three above. That's what each entry should look like, but usually, one feature is missing. The card shows the image, an audio of a native speaker pronouncing the word, phonetics (an excellent feature), and then an option to record your voice. For many--maybe half--of the words, there's no audio of a native speaker. What happened? Also, the pictures selected are awful. For the phrase, "I don't understand," a girl scratching her head in front of a math-splattered chalk board. Nice. I want my money back.
Needs an update fast ! MiMaher !
Just bought this and the design is great. But just like the other reviewers say, some buttons will not play a voice. And some buttons will play the next sentence. If future updates fix these problems and new words will be added, then we have a winner.
