Was A great Tape Calculator
Prior to the update this was just the best classic tape calc. It was straightforward and worked really well. The update is buggy to say the least. The last several times I tried the basic now-handicapped version (keep in mind I had previously paid for the app) — which the update converted my paid version to — it was completely non-functional. By that I mean it would not function as a calculator. I emailed the developer and they did not respond. I was just looking for instructions on how to make the now-hobbled app I had always used just be a calculator. This brings me to the next concern. If the update was going to turn my paid-for app into a nothing-app there should have been some warning. This was underhanded I feel. I don’t mind paying a developer for their hard work. But don’t steel my previous purchase. Let me know what you are doing and I will decide. I have since found a replacement tape calc app (10 Key Universal Calc) and was happy to pay 3 times the cost of the ‘key’ to make CrowdCafe’s app a calculator again. (Still only talking $6).
Terrible Update
Hate the change to the interface. Lost all the original functionality that I paid for (tape, interface choice, export, printing) etc. Expect me to pay for it again? Don’t think so. Can some one please tell me how I can restore the old version? I received a response from the developer explaining that all the functionality of the prior version was still there. Functionality, maybe but usability, no. Here is my reply to the developers I used your calculator app on my iPad for many years. I liked it very much. The interface was clean and professional. I liked the “tape” function. The latest update completely changed the interface. It is now one big blob of white where you can barely tell the buttons apart. The tape is no longer conveniently beside the calculator. It must be accessed separately. I understand that the colors can be changed with the in app purchase. That’s not the point. The new interface and way the calculator/tape work is a step backwards. For me the calculator is now clunky , awkward and difficult to use. For me it’s so bad that I had to delete the update and restore the old version. Consider going back to what worked because for me this doesn’t, and I’m certainly not going to purchase the premium features since the basics are unusable for me.
Just what i was looking for, works as billed
This is one of those great apps that does exactly what it says it will and what you want it to do. The only difficulty was actually finding it. There nothing to tell one it has a tape, the feature I was looking for. I just happened on the app. But of course, like most apps that are great, you want stuff added. For example, adding a text note to the tape would be helpful, as would negative numbers on the tape appearing in red.
New Version Huge Step Backwards...
New user interface is terrible. The neat tape feature that listed your calculations on the side (when device in portrait mode) is all gone—or rather moved to the top—making it such a pain to get to that it’s rendered pretty much useless. I feel like I’m being punished for something terrible I must have done. I really loved the old version. It looked so sharp and was laid out so well. It was well worth what I paid for it. This “update” ruined an excellent and useful piece of software. I have no issue paying for good software. Changes here just destroyed such a handy tool, however, and I can’t recommend this now. Since I can’t rollback, I guess I’m going to have to find a new calculator. This one does not make my day easier at all. Just the opposite...
Awful update :-(
This was my favorite calculator. Everything I loved about it has been swept away with the latest update: the warm, simple desktop look, the handy tape that was easily visible as I worked, and the simplicity with which I could clear or print it. I also hate the unicolor design of the update. It is much harder on my eyes than the previous version, and in my opinion is just blah, plain, and ugly instead of elegant like it was before. It is also harder to use. In spite of my efforts to view the tape and toggle between the tape and the calculator keypad, I get stuck in one view or the other and find the whole thing useless. Please bring back the previous version, or offer it as an option for those of us who prefer it.
