Lockdown Privacy Overview
What is Lockdown Privacy? Lockdown is a free, open-source firewall app available for iOS and Mac that allows users to block any connection to any domain, protecting their privacy across the web. The app works for all apps, not just the browser, and offers useful preconfigured defaults. Lockdown is on-device, meaning it doesn't connect to any servers or third-party analytics, ensuring everything the user does stays private. The app is Openly Operated certified, with a public 38-page audit report, and has been audited multiple times by security professionals. Lockdown has been featured in various press coverage and has a simple privacy policy.
1. Lockdown is the world's first Open Source firewall for iOS -- and now available on Windows! Lockdown allows you to block any connection to any domain and protecting your privacy across the web.
2. - Open Source: Since firewalls have access to *everything* you do, it's critical that any firewall you use should be open source.
3. - On-Device: Lockdown does its magic on-device and doesn't connect to any servers, or third-party analytics, or anything else.
4. Lockdown is 100% open source.
5. This way, everything you do stays private to you.
6. For free.

Almost a gold standard
The ad tracking is better than my browser plugin and appears to block even more ads while also preserving website functionality! However, this app doesn't appear to be compatable with third-party VPNs. They will appear to run, but my IP address does not change. I only use VPNs on occasion, but would prefer to have this running in tandem. If this is fixed (and their privacy policy really is what they say it is) there is no reason this app can't be a gold standard for Windows users!
Not ready for prime time....
Let me say the Windows app works fine alone and like, on ios and iPad OS, NO issues. Except! I use Express VPN on all devices. Lockdown will not work with Express VPN. One or the other has to be OFF for the other to work. ON together, they break the connection to the internet on Safari and I refuse to use other browsers. Having my present IP address covered, masked by the VPN is more important than the trackers. I've been using Express VPN for 3 years. It works and there is no logging. I've been using 1Blocker on Safari several years as well and it just works. 1Blocker does work with Lockdown fine, no issues. I do not want to use Lockdown's vpn until it has been reviewed by Macworld, OSX Daily, Tom's Hardware etc. Lastly, I will not be looking at this review to see your reply. I don't know why Microsoft can't notify when a responce is posted, since one has to be signed in to leave a review anyway, having a little script running looking for reply posts seems simple. None-the-less, if Express VPN is on and I turn on Lockdown, it breaks the established connection. If Lockdown is on and I turn on Evpn, it will never connect. Same thing on iOS or iPad OS. Handshake?
Battery Antagonist
I have the same issue as another reviewer - it burns through the battery, big time - even when the computer is sleeping. We need an app like this that blocks ads and trackers across all apps, not just in the browser; but for now the battery problem makes it a nonstarter. It works pretty well on my iPhone, so I'm keeping it and hoping for an update that fixes the power drain. If that happens, it'll get at least another star (or maybe two).
Good in general, but needs configuration
I read the other reviews but I didn't have those issues. Mine works fine and the counter absolutely blocks items. I haven't added it to my startup items yet but I'll try that next. To make it better, it really needs some sort of configuration settings. Right now if you restart it starts with the firewall off.
App Stopped Working
App stopped working after the Os 15.3 update! Not sure if it's the update or the app. Hence 3 stars. Worked well for a while! After the update, I logged into app store, on ios, app store stays on even when settings is turned off and no longer blocks nor does it refresh to clear block logs, now the hide link is stays highlighted. And when I click the menu it closes the app. It also doesn't allow me to add to the block list to refresh the list. On ios app the ransomware does not have anything blocked, and says it is under maitenance, on Windows Os, it showed some at first, but not sure if these domains added to block list are interfering with blocking. Please fix this, otherwise the app is great for blocking ads and unwanted trackers. Thanks for your help!
