Jira Cloud by Atlassian Overview

What is Jira Cloud by Atlassian? Jira Cloud for macOS is a project management app designed for ease and simplicity. It allows users to track and update tasks, requests, and bugs, and collaborate with robust communication and file attachment options. The app offers features such as labels, subtasks, epics, and optional scrum and kanban workflows to structure work. Users can customize the workflow based on their team's processes, coordinate and organize work with unlimited projects and teams, and work with multiple Jira instances at once. The app also offers push notifications in context, right on the desktop, and the option to choose between dark mode or regular. Users can respond to customer issues within service queues, monitor response times and SLAs, and organize ITSM helpdesks or service desks. They can prioritize their backlog, prepare tasks in advance, rank work items, and organize sprints before they've commenced. The app also allows users to log and estimate time on work items, start and complete agile sprints, and invite new users. However, as of February 2022, the Jira Cloud app for macOS will no longer be supported.

    Needs Improvement

First, huge shoutout to the Atlassian team for making this application happen, and being one of the first iOS apps on the Windows. That being said, this application has a long way to go before it can truly be considered a premium, 5-star application. Most of all there doesn't seem to be the polish of a normal Windows application. When clicking on the "Search issues" button on the left side, it brings up a whole other panel to search. So if you click it and start typing quickly, it won't capture any input, which makes the application feel really slow. You also can't resize the side panel by dragging. Also, clicking on a status to change it, should display a dropdown, not another panel to choose the new status. The preferences page also feels like it should be a seperate window (like all other PC applications), as opposed to a view on top of the normal application. You also can't hover over someone's avatar icon on the board to see the name of the person who it's assigned to. And finally, no support for Jira Server makes it a deal breaker for many. Please focus on making this application feel more like a true PC application.

A step in the right direction, but falls short

This iOS-ported Windows app feels alright in general, but it doesn't feel cohesive with PC and more could be done. For instance, the search bar opens up a search section rather than doing a search inside of that bar. I'm also unable to view any related commits, pull requests, etc. to any issue in my projects. I also can't seem to do Markdown formatting in my descriptions and have to use the formatting toolbar. I do appreciate Atlassian jumping on board with porting their app to the Windows, but it still needs some quality of life updates to make it fit with the Windows.

An ok step, but missing features and slow

I was pretty excited when I saw the email about the new version of a native app, as my chrome looks like a disaster with JIRA tabs some days. The app is ok, but it fails pretty short in a few key areas. 1) No dashboards, and no way to "pin" filters. This is really one of the only ways for me to keep track of things in my org. Dashboards and pinning to the sidebar are huge things to me. 2) App is somewhat sluggish. When I click on anything it takes a while for JIRA to render. The website renders significantly faster (3x ) 3) Font rendering is very blurry. I work on a 3 monitor setup as a programmer (2 external my Windows) and in all cases the font in the Windows app is pretty blurry, whereas it is normal clear font on the web. I think with a few tweaks this could be a decent app, and could help replace having a chrome full of JIRA tabs, but it just isn't quite there as it currently stands.

Disappointing, a weak port from the iOS version

I was very excited for this app. I like having dedicated apps instead of opening a page for everything. It's clear from the beginning they just took the iOS version and ported it over with minimal optimizations for a Desktop UI. If there's a link in a ticket, you have to long click to bring up a menu to copy it to your clipboard. This is completely unnatural and inconsistent with the rest of the OS UI. Can't drag to highlight, can't add watchers, can't adjust the size of the panes... Happy for a dark mode, but the limitations have me begrudgingly going back to the web version.
