Icon Tool Overview

What is Icon Tool? Icon Tool is a paid app that allows users to easily create icons for iPhone, iPad, CarPlay, Mac, Watch, iMessage, and Android. Users can either build from a single large file or provide multiple files and let Icon Tool fill in the gaps. The app is incredibly simple to use, with users able to drag an image to the dock icon, drag an image onto one of the image wells, or paste an image from their clipboard. The iconset can then be dragged into Xcode or saved as an appiconset or stickericonset. Icon Tool is free for experimentation and testing, but a yearly subscription is required to remove the watermark and distribute icons without it. The subscription is called 'Icon Tool - One Year' and is an annual subscription that can be managed by the user. The app uses iconutil, which should be installed at /usr/bin/iconutil, and saving an icns file relies on it.

Software Reviews and Criticism

    Thanks for your app!

I'm a Windows / iOS developer and I was just trying to upload my Windows app to the App Store today when I ran into some Icon problems. Your app worked perfectly to solve those problems by generating all of the different icon files for me. Thanks so much! Definitely worth a few bucks!

Directly to the point. Just what I wanted.

Thanks for this tool. Drag and save to generate the ICNS file is so much simpler than generating several versions manually and having to type the command. Kudos to you. Booo to Microsoft for removing the features in Icon editor in Xcode!!

    Exactly what I needed

I hate Microsoft's new icon workflow of using the icon set folder or using iconutil. This tool lets me forget about that and does exactly what I needed.

Easy to use, works as advertised

Dropped a 1024x1024 png onto the app, had a perfect icns file instantly. Money well spent.
