DigicalSim Overview

What is DigicalSim? DigicalSim (formerly: LogicDesigner) is an app designed to assist students in logic design, digital engineering, computer science, and mathematics. The app is based on basic digital building blocks, logic gates, and offers the basic building blocks, wiring tools, and a flexible plane to create live real-time digital circuits. It is ideal for anyone who wants to learn the basic principles of how computers work, especially students of digital engineering. The app features various gates, switches, clocks, displays, and labels, and offers flood gates, tri-state pins, clock pins, clear pins, multi-color smooth curved wires, virtual links, unlimited scrollable plane space, run mode, circuit lock, switchable synchronized digital waveform clock generators, live value indicators, customizable tags and labels, design-time snap grid, zoom in and out, persistent circuit, library of ready-made circuit examples, sharing and printing options, and undo functionality. The app also supports direct wiring to use with Apple Pen, pick and drop, selection/pan tool, live timeline viewer, probe icon, and Boolean function viewer for all gates and flip-flops.

Software Reviews and Criticism

    Easy to use

It’s easy & fast to add elements, and it’s a nice implementation (especially for students, as you can hit the ground running instead of taking a couple days just to learn the design tool). It might be missing some of the components a professional would use, but it’s got enough for most students & DIYers. The only thing I found unintuitive was adding wires. You need to click and hold your component for a few seconds. There are multiple options for wire colors, which is nice since you can tell at a quick glance which inputs go where, but some of the colors aren’t clickable.

    It works but...

I does work so it has that going for it but it runs the CPU at over 100% and is extremely sluggish. Uses custom file saving system which is just odd instead of "standard" PC File menu and documents. It just feels like a web application running in a PC window and not a native application.
